I found A Good Sale This Morning

Happy December Everyone! can you believe we've reached the last month of this year? In the blink of an eye we'll be wishing each other a Happy New Year. I love December and all the holiday hoopla. Meanwhile I have to push all the holiday stuff out of my mind and concentrate on today. I'm waiting to hear from my daughter in law. She had a post-op appointment as she has to have surgery next week on her torn ligament in her elbow. She's been in a lot of pain and she's actually looking forward to the surgery. I don't know if I'd ever say I was "looking forward" to surgery but I guess she's been dealing with it for awhile and not only is it painful but she is having trouble using her arm. My daughter in law got me an order for some scarfs from her church group so I'll be spending time making them. Always nice to have a little extra cash especially around holiday time. My red sparkle scarfs have been pretty popular this year. So, I found out that Hobby Lobby is having a 30% off sale on all their yarn (yay) and I can get free shipping online with a $50 purchase. Spending $50 isn't hard and I can't ever have too much yarn Yarn is probably second to coffee when it comes to things I love. (not counting family or friends) That's what I'm up to today.

I heard from her a short while ago and she said the surgery itself will only be about 45 minutes but the recovery will be 3 to 4 months. Guess she's going to be out of commission for awhile

That surgery sounds painful, but it will be good to have it done. How did she tear the ligament? How long does it take you to make a scarf? My mother tried to teach me to knit back in the day, but I didn't have the eye hand coordination. It was just an exercise in frustration.

@Marilynda1225 Oh I didn't know you were crocheting them. I might possibly do a little crocheting. I heard there were some good you tube videos on it. I once made a crocheted daisy stitch and put a a design on my pants when I was a teen.

She told me how she torn the ligament but I don't remember. Her surgery is next week and I really hope it isn't too complicated and that the recovery won't be too long. I can make a scarf in one day if I worked on it all day long but that's unrealistic. So usually I can get one done in a day or two depending on whether I am making it for an order or if it's just for fun. I never learned to knit and didn't have the patience to learn. Crocheting is much easier in my book

@snowy22315 I'm sure you can find a lot of tutorials on You-tube. If you were able to make a daisy stitch then I bet your skills will come right back to you again.

I can relate to your daughter-in-law looking forward to getting the surgery over and feeling better-remember those last days of pregnancy, it has to compare. I will feel like that when they remove my gall bladder, although with the way I have been eating lately it has not bothered me. Chicken soup must be good for more than just respiratory troubles. I'm so happy for you that you got this big order for scarves. It's exciting, it will keep you busy, the extra income will be nice and by the time you finish it will be Christmas time. I hope that you can calculate how long it takes to do up a scarf and then calculate the number of days you will need to finish the order and pace yourself. That way if something unexpectedly wonderful crops up, you can put down your needles and yarn for a few hours and partake.

I know you've been anxious about getting your gall bladder surgery done and over with. I hope they can schedule it for you soon. I'm hoping to have the scarfs done by the end of the weekend so I can get them to my daughter in law before she goes in for her surgery on the 6th.

I'd just want the surgery over and done with instead of worrying about it. I hope things go smoothly for her. It's always fun to get a new shipment of yarn in and start using it.

@Marilynda1225 Yeah, I've never heard of shredding ligaments so I have no idea, either. I hope she's at least out of pain soon. I'm always fine, thank you. I am having trouble with my eyes being too swollen to drive today but that's becoming the new "norm" now. *shrug*

I'm just hoping the surgery isn't more complicated than is expected. Her ligament is not only torn but shredding so I don't know what they'll do to repair it. I put my order in for the yarn so now I can't wait for it to arrive How are you doing?

Glad you found a great deal. The only thing I enjoy about the holidays is the time off. The rest of it can pound sand. lol

Do you get a lot of time off for the holidays or just the typical few days?

@Marilynda1225 Just the typical few days. We get Thanksgiving and Black Friday, then Christmas day and New Year's day. Granted, if they fall on weekends we get the day after or before. If the holiday falls on a Saturday we get the Friday. If it falls on a Sunday we get the Monday.

Sending good wishes to your DIL. I hope the surgery goes really well. I have some feathery type wool I need to use up but I'm not sure how easy it be to crochet with.
