A prickly gift

We are going up the street aways this evening to visit our good friends. Their neighbours, also our friends, will be there too and the six of us will have a Christmas drink or three. We are taking a Baileys dip. We will have strawberries and wafer fingers for dipping. I thought it would be nice to give them a small gift so I’ve also bought each couple a tiny cactus which you can see in the photo. They are supposed to be really hardy so I hope that’s the case. To make it easier to carry them, we’ve covered empty margarine tubs with tinsel. Isn’t it amazing what you can do with a little imagination?

@JudyEv Pardon me for being so indelicate, but the black oval shapes behind the cacti made me think of toilet lids standing to attention, which reminds me that I haven’t wrapped any tinsel around my potty.

They certainly do look like toilet lids. I'm glad you pointed that out to me.

Those little cacti are so pretty and your idea to use empty margarine tubs is excellent.

It saved any of us getting prickles in our fingers.

@LadyDuck They do indeed and the fine prickles can be hard to extract.

Those are really cute cacti, they'll probably love any sunny window they're put in. I was thinking about your dip idea when it hit me, mom used to make chocolate icing for her cakes and used bourbon in it for flavor, it was delicious and I'd love to make something like that as a dip for cookies.

Yes, for those with a serious sweet tooth using cookies to top with this would be delicious.

@rebelann I've overdone the rich foods a bit lately and ended up with terrible stomach-aches so I'm going to go easy over Christmas.

The dip was easy to make. If this was a bit thicker it would make a good topping.

I wanted something to put the pots in so they wouldn't tip over and that could be handled without fear of getting pricked.

I like cacti. My former boss had a small one like that in his office. Enjoy your drink or three.

Those cactus are so neat. Very festive. You had me at Baileys. I haven't had that in so long, now might get a bottle for Christmas day. Have fun!
