Do You Have Your Ticket?

Okay, okay. I will hear you out. The odds say I cannot win. But still, that is only true if you don't hold a ticket in your hands. The fact is that even if you have a ticket in your hands, you probably will not win. The odds are just too terribly against you in a game like this. BUT, it is a game of chance, and the numbers are random. Entirely. All you really have to do is match up the right 6 numbers. It is nearly impossible to do that. Yes. All the statistics show that. If you did not know, the multi-state lottery in the United States, known as the MegaMillions, has a jackpot of $1.1 billion. Yes, that's billion with a B. One ticket costs $2. Your odds of winning are 1 in 302.6 million. But for $2 isn't it worth the chance? If you have no ticket at all your odds are 0 in 302.6 million. I think $2 is worth the shot even the odds are terribly against me. Heck, it's less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I say, why not?

I don't have a ticket yet but I will definitely have one by Tuesday. When I win you'll know where to find me

I hope you win! I’d rather take the money (let’s say $10 a week for each lottery drawing, so $50 a week) and put it in a savings account. By the end of the year you have $2,600. Guaranteed. No drawing.

And unfortunately, in Canada you can't play. Does Canada have similar lotteries?

@marlina It seems to hit in these high numbers more often certainly than it used to. Sign of the times, I guess.

I've never been tempted to play the Lottery. Good luck. I suppose if you win we'll never see you again.

For the little money it costs, it requires no temptation regardless of the odds I don't actually win anything at all. I just know the odds are far worse without a ticket in my hand.

Don’t really play those lottos. I never win usually. Not even a few bucks. I prefer scratch-offs. Even if I don’t win I at least enjoy playing. I saw a post yesterday on FB that said a month after winning a million in a scratch-off lotto a woman won two million in another scratch-off. Or maybe the amounts are reversed. Still... wow!

@porwest I wonder if it ever happened that a person kept playing the same numbers over and over and eventually won... Perhaps I should spend a few bucks and buy some tickets. But probably for a bigger shot at winning you gotta buy a lot of tickets.

When there is a jackpot as big as $1.1 billion, I don't care if I don't win. I care more that I never had a chance without a ticket. lol But yep, there are multitudes of stories of some very lucky people who have won more than once. I am trying to think if there is one of someone winning the big jackpots twice. I don't think there is. But it can happen of course.

When we are talking this kind of money and $2, I think one would have to be a fool not to play.

I was talking about this sort of thing with my sister. We agreed that there are worse ways to waste money. As long as you're not spending more than you can afford to lose, of course.

I would think if one can't afford to lose $2, there may be much bigger problems afoot. lol

Sounds the game is addicting, once you've tried, you give another chance.. Who knows you will win this time

Some people could become addicted and go off the deep end, and some people do. It is not unlike any other gambling. Never play with money you cannot afford to lose, and especially do not gamble expecting to keep any of it.

I think the chance of winning is only about 0.01%, and I never play that.

The odds are horrible. No doubt about. But the cost is also infinitesimal. So, I play. $2? What's that? A drop in the bucket. But if I have the right combination? $1.1 billion? Yeah. I am going to play. I would be a fool not to actually.

You do the right thing trying it out. I really hope you can win it Here in Portugal we have a lottery called Euromilhoes that is an European lottery where you can win 17 million euros but if no one gets the numbers right it gets higher. There were people that won 200 million euros because the jackpot went higher and higher because no one was getting all the numbers. In this lottery you need to guess 5 numbers (1 until 50) and 2 stars (1 until 12). So it is really hard to guess everything but still i try it out sometimes. We pay 2 euros and 50 cents for this lottery. Sadly there is only one bad thing. Even though it is an European lottery here in Portugal the Government takes 20 per cent of the prize if you win more than 5000 euros. It is really unfair but sadly it is how it works

I really hope I can win it too. That's just a buttload of money. lol Sounds like your lottery is not that different than ours. The MegaMillions starts at $20 million and goes up from there until someone wins.

My husband buys tickets, and his philosophy is that you are paying the $2 to be able to dream, and it's worth it to him.

I think it is worth it too. I mean, $2 is not a lot and even if I never win, and probably never will, I am right there with the idea that it is fun to dream a little bit and wonder what you would do with all that money if you did win.
