The $$$ signs appeared after my nap. Plans. Giving away.

As usual, the wonderful signs came at my nap time. Last month I did not earn so much but still I will have over the mimimum. All the money I earn here goes to pay pal to be used in souvenirs when I go on vacations. The last time I went to Aruba, I brought beautiful bags for everyone of Dixie´s daughters. I did not bring souvenirs to my own daughters or to my graddaughter because Tania is taking everything I can spare to her house in the south. And Claudia is in the process of giving away, as I am. All Sofía´s clothes go to one of Dixie´s granddaughter. But I suspect that Claudia also places some of her clothes in the bag as Dixie was wearing one of Claudia´s warm sweaters when we went to the mountains. Carolina has been told to come and ask for things too but she never has time. So I gave her for Christmas a beautiful bowl that had been my mother´s. I have also a big collection of ashtray that nobody uses anymore. So, there they are. Do you give away some of your belongings?

We used to give away a lot of stuff all the time because I bought different furniture or different decorative items for the house and gave away the ones that we'd used but didn't look worn at all. We gave truckloads of stuff to the thrift store here in the city that we just didn't have room for at this house but we still have too much stuff. The garage here is half full. We don't have any close friends that need anything now.

@DaddyEvil Now everyone buys all they want until the credit card says ENOUGH!!! Years ago, we saved to buy what we needed little by little.

I will give away part of my things but I suppose that most of it will have to go for donations as everyone in my family has all they need.

I've downsized almost as much as possible. I still have a lot of glass ware that I need to get rid of. They are beautiful pieces, and I won't throw them away.

@RubyHawk I once gave to my youngest daughter a lot of glasses and extra mugs I had. She needed them because she had broken the ones she had. Now she has broken the ones I gave her too.

@marguicha I down sized several years ago, and I don't believe my sons or grands need anything more. If I do get rid of the glass ware, some of them might take it to keep it from going to the thrift store.

I just noticed the dollar signs! What a nice surprise today. Yes, I'm also in the process of paring down what I own and giving away some things.

@spiderdust Over a long life, many people have given me things. There are some old things that I cherish, such as some kitchen gadgets. But others are just there, in the closet or in the kitchen cupboards making it harder to clean.

Yes, I do give some of my belongings away to my adult kids and to my grand-kids. When I am cleaning out stuff, some things I give to friends or to charities. I figure I can't take these things with me when my time on earth is done but I think it is important to try to keep some special things in the family from generation to generation. Other things can be shared with friends to let them know how precious they are in my life.

Ashtrays were once a go-to gift, especially for men but they are hardly used now. It's nice you can gift your children some of your treasures.

I was looking for things for Tania and found in the second floor a couple of blouses that I want to give to Alejandra. They are a little too big for me and they are almost new. I also gave more dishes to her. I will not give big birthday parties anymore

I've given a couple of things to our housekeeper (hubby's cousin); but we really don't have anyone to give things to. We mostly donate what we are getting rid of.

I first give things to my close family and my friends if they have any need for them. Then, the rest go for donations Leticia also gets some of my things but I consider her family. i remeber that 3 years ago I gave her a gas cylinder that was too eavy for me to carry to the heater. And I have given Leticia and Carolina part of my French perfumes as I don´t use them often.

We were taught to cherish certain belongings as sort of heirlooms. You know, my china from my grandmothers, my sterling silver flatware, Waterford crystal, and on and on it goes. I don't know how it is in other countries, but in the US, guess what? Our grown kids don't want this stuff. We were told it was worth money, and so forth, and guess what? I can buy an entire set of incredibly lovely antique Limoges china for pennies. It's a shame, but I have sorted and passed out these types of belongings and still have some. People are down to basics, and young adults want things that are easy to care for. They don't want to hand wash china and crystal, they want to slap everything in the dishwasher, or throw away the paper plates. It's kind of a shame...both of my grandmothers would be appalled over it all.

I am shocked by all this. I hate to eat in paper plates and cut with plastic knives.

@marguicha I don't buy those items, I prefer to eat on real plates and use real silverware. I do keep a small package of paper plated in the cabinet to use for giving away baked goods to the kids and neighbors, but that's it. They are just costly and not even necessary. My own grown children do not eat on paper plates and they use regular dishes. They have a few of the 'fancy' type of dishware, but they sure don't use them very often, and they don't want anymore of them. Most young couples now want none of that stuff. It doesn't matter to them how pretty it is or what ancestor might have owned it or gifted it, they don't want it anymore. It's sad. End of an era.
