National Cheesy Socks Day

United Kingdom
January 21, 2023 3:58am CST
I have just seen something funny while I searched the internet this morning. It seems that in some places, today is National Cheesy Socks Day. There is a picture on the website of somebody wearing some very amusing looking socks. So I assume they mean the design of the socks should be Cheesy rather than the smell.

The originator of the title for the day might have given a little more thought to it, in my opinion...

I agree, it does not sound very nice. Nobody would want to celebrate having smelly socks. Just imagine if somebody decided to have a smelly sock party.

@lazydaizee Eww! When I still worked at Walmart, during breaks, some people would take their shoes off to "air out" their feet and clear the break room.

@DaddyEvil I bet this put everybody off their lunch, especially if they were having cheese sandwiches.

Darn - I missed it . But I don't have cheesy socks anyway . . . they are all rather basic and boring - and clean smelling .

@lazydaizee Maybe I'll cut off the sleeves off an ugly Christmas sweater and wear them on my feet

@much2say That would be a good way to recycle a sweater that you did not like. I think the sleeves would make a very warm pair of socks. In years gone by when more knitting was done by hand, people would unravel an old and worn out hand knitted jumper and use the wool to make something else with. Knitting a pair of socks would be a good use for this old wool.

Maybe you could look out for it next year and buy yourself a pair of fancy sock to wear on the day.

I searched and checked the meaning, it's about silly and ridiculous socks, not about the bad smell. I feel relieved.

Me too. At this time of the year I do not care what my socks look like , the most important things is that they keep my feet warm in the cold weather.

@LadyDuck Me too, my slippers are a bit like the furry boots that I wear outside during the cold weather. It is the soles that are different and my slippers do not have a heel.

Leet's hope they mean the design and not the smell!! Vince's doctor wears really cheesy socks - all sorts of colours and often with crocodiles/dragons/dogs/whatever on them.

@lazydaizee Vince has red shoes and the doctor remarked on his shoes. Vince said if it's good enough for Frank (as in Pope Francis who wears red slippers) it's good enough for him. And then he told the doctor that he shouldn't sling off at his shoes but to take a look at his own socks which were very brightly colooured. He is a great doctor and we're very pleased to have such a nice guy to look after us.

@JudyEv He does sound like a nice doctor and observant too if he noticed the red shoes. My husband went to the doctors once and I went with him, I could not believe the Doctor hardly looked at him because she was so busy looking at her computer screen. She hardly looked up at all during the whole visit. I always thought that doctors had to look right at their patients to recognise any tell tell signs of illness.

Nice to know a doctor with a sense of humour. Perhaps he talks about his socks to his patients to make them feel at ease.

I suppose the design aspect is much better than the smell aspect. Yes, yuck. lol. But I am boring when it comes to socks. I just wear white ones, and even if I wear something else, which is quite rare, it's always something that is a solid color.

@lazydaizee I guess they are not totally white. Most of them have gray heels and toes.

@porwest White socks are a nightmare, I avoid them where possible.

I suppose it is easier to keep them in pairs if all your socks are the same colour. I do not know how, but I often end up with odd ones.
