My new jeans stain

So I bought a pair of Paige jeans last year. And I bought another pair recently. Wore the new one yesterday and noticed that my white socks were partially dark blue. So is my underwear. And some spots on my new violet Nike sneakers are colored as well. What the hell? I can't wear any of these jeans if they will stain my clothes all the time. I looked at the labels inside both pairs of jeans and it says something like "indigo will bleed." If that is the case, they should have that label attached to the front of the jeans and not inside it. People don't really look at inside labels. If I had known this I wouldn't have bought these jeans. I don't remember having this issue with other brands.

Uhm... when I buy jeans for Pretty and I, I always wash them before we wear them the first time, adding a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle of the wash. The vinegar helps "seal" the color to the jeans so it won't stain our other clothes and shoes. (Once in a while a pair of jeans will still "bleed" slightly and I have to put them through another vinegar bath but it really doesn't happen very often.)

I've never worn new jeans without washing them first.

@MALUSE A lot of people just wear them without ever washing them first. I don't like the feel of jeans that haven't been washed first.

When I buy clothes I never wash them before wearing. Maybe that’s not a good thing. How would I put the vinegar into the machine? Do you put it in the softener compartment? And I guess you wash just jeans by themselves then. No other clothes. Correct?

I always wash clothes before wearing them, especially jeans or other dark colors.

@LindaOHio I know some things actually say wash before wearing.

@lovebuglena It's a good idea to wash them before wearing.

When I used to buy jeans for my husband I always washed before he used, adding vinegar fixed the color.

@lovebuglena They bleed because they have been dyed after they were manufactured, it's not the fabric that has been dyed. It costs less to produce them this way.

@LadyDuck oh wow! They should have that in large letters on the outside of the jeans that they will bleed.

I don’t get why they bleed. Mom says it’s normal. Doesn’t seem normal to me.

As DaddyEvil says, washing then rinsing in a vinegar rinse should fix the issue.

@lovebuglena Yes, wash them on their own.

@JudyEv label says wash with like colors but I wouldn’t even want to do that. Wonder how much detergent I need to wash them by themselves.

I guess I’d have to wash them alone then, without any other clothes. Just in case. Don’t want them staining anything else. And also if I were to use vinegar.

@lovebuglena I am sorry what the jeans did to your socks, underwear and sneakers. You are right they should put that information where you can see it very clearly.

I am more bummed about the sneakers as they are new. But I hate stains anywhere. I wonder if the color will wash off the socks and underwear when I wash them. With the sneakers I guess there's no way to get rid of the stains. What is weird to me is that I didn't sweat, nor did the jeans get wet. I can understand the color bleeding when wet but when dry makes no sense.

@Hannihar no. Thankfully the stains are in a place that’s not very visible.

@lovebuglena I am sorry I have no answer for what happened. That is a shame. Also, that is very sad that the sneakers were new so do you have to get new sneakers then?

I guess you just have to wash them separately. But that would be irritating. I would not want clothes that are so dyed they never stop staining other clothes.

@lovebuglena You can use a bucket if you don't have a bowl.

I don’t like washing only one or two items in the washer. I never do that. Seems such a waste. But if they bleed/stain I can’t wash them with other things. If I had a large bowl (not sure what’s it’s called in English) I’d use that and just hand wash in there.

@lovebuglena What is more wasteful, I wonder? Wasting four gallons of water to wash a couple of things? Or saving the water and ruining the entire load of everything else?

My new Nikes. Some parts of my shoe laces and on the inside where the tongue (or whatever that's called) is. And some spots near the laces.

Guess you gotta wash the jeans before wearing them. But then they should put a label on them that says that. Don't remember seeing it on these two pairs. And they should also put a label that says they will bleed on the outside not on the inside where people won't look.

Yes, that should be on the outside in big red letters. If you buy another pair you might have to wash the jeans first.

I don't know if I want to buy this brand anymore now that I know they may bleed. I don't think I had that issues with other brands I had. What's also weird is this... I got size 31 in the first pair. They seemed to fit great in the dressing room but once I started to actually wear them they slightly fall off, even with the belt. This second pair I got is size 30. They were also a great fit. But when I wear them the slide down as well. Haven't tried them with a belt though but probably will be same issue. I hope they won't stretch after I wash them. I was told they should not be put in the drier and instead hang dry.

@db20747 Most likely I won't, even though I love how they feel. But thing is when you try them on in the dressing room you are standing in place, not really walking, so of course they will stay in place. So how can you really know if that will be true once you actually wear them?
