The daughter of a Chesterfield County man named Salvador Gomez was able to talk him into buying powerball lottery ticket for the November 2 drawing which was worth $1.2 billion dollars jackpot which the chances of winning the grand prize is a very long shot of winning. The name of the daughter of Salvador did not give out her name since her dad was the person who won the $100,000 dollar prize by matching four numbers in the Powerball ticket plus the Powerball number. The couple did check their numbers at the Spencer's Express in North Chesterfield where they found out that they won $100,000 dollars before taxes. What I do not understand is why would Salvador go to the Viriginia lottery office to cash in his check in late January. Salvador intends to use the winnings from the lottery to share it with his relatives and likely take a vacation. Link is https://www.upi.com/1511675971334 via@ upi

@Deepizzaguy Congrats on winning. I have never been lucky in winning lotteries. I won one thing in my life and I was very proud in winning that. He deserved to win and sounds like he really needs that vacation. it is good to have you back.

The highest prize I ever won on a lottery was around $100 dollars. Salvador is one lucky man who took the advice of his daughter which paid off.

@Deepizzaguy 100 dollars is also good. I am glad she was right and if she was wrong I wonder if he would ever believe her again or trust her judgment. I am glad she gave him good advice.

@Hannihar That is a good question whether Salvador would trust his daughter again if he had won any money playing Powerball tickets since I guess Salvador has money to burn in this case.

From now on, this man's life will be ruled by the money he has won. He will suddenly have many 'friends'.

The dark side of being rich winning the lottery will be the strangers who will beg him for money since they are down on their luck.

@Deepizzaguy I think it's very silly of him to allow the lottery people to take his photo and publish it. The winner of a huge sum of money should always remain anonymous.

@MALUSE I agree with you that there a lot of lottery winners who do not want their faces shown in the lottery pages since they are going to deal with strange friends begging them for money or being price goused by strangers.

While I'd be happy for any win, yeesh. To be ONE NUMBER away from the big one. THAT would irk me. lol It's also funny to me when someone wins a relatively small prize like this and says, "I am gonna do all of 'x y and z' with it." After taxes it will be worth about $60k, and that's hardly a lot of money to do much with. Not saying I wouldn't gladly take it. But people have no concept of what a lot of money is or how far it actually goes. lol What would I do with it? I'd invest it and earn about $4000 a year off it. I'll go have some fun with that and leave the rest of it alone to keep on giving.

I would seek advice from a lawyer and an accountant how to use my money wisely since winning a huge prize would be useful to pay off my bills.

He was also lucky that the top prize was so big, as it inflated his own lesser prize. Here, in Australia, our top prize is lucky to reach only 50 million dollars or so, never a billion, so the lesser prizes are chicken feed only. $100, 000 is a good amount, and I wonder how much of it would go in tax, though, maybe half of it? Our lotteries here are tax-free though, which puts it all in our own pockets.

@rpinder Yes, it is interesting, because in other areas, Australia is one of the most highly taxed countries in the world. In lotteries, lottery winnings are classified as tax-free income, here.

That's interesting that your lottery is tax free. Taxes take a sizable chunk out of a lottery win. If my memory serves me right, he may not get $100k before taxes. For lottery prizes from mrt recollection you have the total prize money before taxes that isnoaid out over a certain period of years. If you elect to get the money paid now, the money is discounted. So, let's say a two million jackpot before taxes drops to maybe $1.4 million and that's before taxes.
