Going to see Plaza Suite by Neil Simon

In an hour or so we’re going to see Plaza Suite, a play written by Neil Simon. We’ve seen a play or two of his before but I didn’t realise what a big name he was until I googled him.
He has written over 30 plays and nearly as many film plays, mostly film adaptations of his own plays. He was born in the Bronx to Jewish parents and grew up during the Depression. His childhood was mostly unhappy as his parents did not have a stable marriage. He found solace in attending comedies in movie theatres.
The play is put on by Melville Theatre Company, which is the company I gave my wedding dress to. There is a sort of wedding scene in tonight’s play and I’m wondering if my dress might appear. Wouldn’t that be cool?
The photo is of said dress but on me. You've seen it before.

There's that lovely nose again!
I hope they do use your dress and that you can get a photo of it.

@JudyEv If I remember it correctly, the play is divided into three separate vignettes...

@BarBaraPrz Yes, that's correct. The last act was hilarious but they were all funny.

I’ve seen a few Neil Simon film adaptations of his movies, and I really have to say that I was underwhelmed by them. It could have been the movie (“they” say movies are rarely as good as plays), or it just could be that his material didn’t strike a chord with me.

@JudyEv — there was a terrific line in Chapter Two: “A girl like that? You don’t take her anyplace fancy. You take her to New Jersey.”

He wrote The Goodbye Girl, and I wanted my money back after watching that…and I saw it for free!

@FourWalls Well, you were a bit greedy, weren't you?
In the second act, the girl was a bit overwhelmed meeting an old high school boyfriend who was now a famous film producer. He asked how many children she had and she said 'Three. A girl and a boy.' which for some reason struck me as really funny.

That sounds really great !
All this makes me too to go and watch a play.
Yet it looks like Theatre as an art is no longer that popular.

Delhi used to had a good Theatre audience till 1980s and 90s, from what I read.
I doubt if it is the same now.

Your gown was beautiful.
I wonder what I will do with mine, it is in our bedroom all sealed and boxed up.
I never gave it a thought until I read this.
I would like to hold on to it until the the twins have at least been offered to have it to wear if they would like, but otherwise it could find it's way to another use as yours has.

@JudyEv My mother took mine in the Monday after our Saturday wedding.
They had to make a slight repair as I tore it a tiny bit by stepping on it without heels on, of course I do not know for certain that they made that repair, as they also dry cleaned it and sealed and boxed it. I remember that I thought that the cost was high.

@Juliaacv Mine had developed sort of 'aging' spots but even without them it would have been several hundred dollars to clean. The agent said to say it was a ballgown and it wouldn't cost quite so much but it was still very expensive.

Such a great picture. That would be cool if your dress showed up. I hope you enjoy the play. My dress is still in the closet. I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

@LindaOHio I think, if you're married, you both need to be on the same page when it comes to decluttering.

@JudyEv I know what you mean about someone having to go through your stuff. I figure it will take someone weeks to go through all our stuff...and I've been trying to downsize for years. It's never-ending because I get rid of something; and my hubby buys something else..

@allknowing Yes, there was. Not so much a 'scene' but she does appear at the end wearing a wedding gown but it wasn't mine. But it's all good.

The ones in the city centre are really expensive. This theatre was in the suburbs but the actors were still all quite qualified. Prices were much more reasonable.

That would be cool if they wore that dress. I guess The Odd Couple very famous over here,The Goodbye Girl, and Biloxi Blues are the NS works I am must familiar with.

It didn't make an entrance but there was a wedding dress in the last act. But that's okay. Maybe it will be used another time.
