There have been a number of people share how to eat frugally on myLot. One key is that they have a pantry with several staples that are useful to create quick and tasty meals. A staple I keep that makes for tasty meals is Rotel. That is a name brand for diced tomatoes with green chilies. You can add it to many things and get just a little kick and a lot of flavor. I added it to a dish of rice and sausages the other night. People often combine it with melted cheese or other cheese sauces for a hot dip. I have put it in my meatloaf. I do not know what I did before I discovered this tasty canned staoke,

I have many cans of diced tomatoes and I have several jars of chopped green chili, so I can use the tomatoes plain or add what I judge the best for the kind of sauce I am making.

That is a very good way to customize.

@GardenGerty - Not always I can add spicy things, I know that my husband likes, but he should avoid.

Yup! I stock my pantry but seems today it's the opposite. I emptied my personal pantry space because I just remembered that there were eggs that has expired.

I use so many eggs, I do not have them expire. My sister used to though.

@Adie04 That would make sense. I have a friend who limits her eggs. She can have them in baked goods though.

Our pantry is always overflowing thanks to my hubs. We're not big on chilies or anything really spicy. I'm sure many of our members will use your tasty tip. Most people like a little kick with their meals.

Diced tomatoes by themselves are a good staple as well.

I love the chilli component but here we rarely have canned foods. We prepare them from scratch

With a garden or good farmer's markets you can do that.

I wish I could use Rotel in some of my cooked dishes, but I can't. I am allergic to nearly every type of pepper there is, with the exception of bell peppers or those little sweet peppers. All the other ones make my throat swell, and since I can't breathe if that happens, I either have to use an Epi pen or rush to the ER. So, I just avoid them at all costs. They taste good...they just do bad things to me. I do love tomatoes, however, and use them in many dishes.

I am sorry you have so many allergies, as it is tasty. Are you also allergic to paprika? It is in so many things for flavor and for color, that would be hard to avoid.

Yes, very simple and good. Some will add some cooked ground beef also.

I have never had Rotel but my oldest daughter always has it in her pantry. I think she uses it mainly for chili

That sounds like a good staple to have in the pantry. I'm not very keen on hot dishes so while canned tomatoes would be okay, I'm not sure I'd like the chilli component.

There is a mild version. It is also not very hot when mixed into other things.
