Blast from the Past #4 - Jam Tarts

I made sausage rolls today and had a small amount of pastry left over. I buy the frozen sheets and they make pastry dishes easy. I kneaded the offcuts of pastry into a ball and rolled it out. I cut out five rounds then rolled the offcuts out enough to get one more. Because it was puff pastry, the edges of the tarts are a bit puffy but that’s okay. I put a spoonful of strawberry jam in each round and made six jam tarts – just like Mother used to make! Jam tarts to me are a blast from the past. You don’t really see them too often nowadays. There are only five in the photo because I ate one before I remembered to take a photo.

Yum. My Mom loved it when I'd make pie pastry and be in a playful mood. Cinnamon and sugar rolled up or a bit of jam. She was just like a little kid in the cookie jar.

It's easy to put too much jam in them but if you do, it makes a real mess of the patty pans.

@JudyEv No. Sorry. My brain suddenly froze just now because I didn't take a nap yet. I just woke up from the nap. Yeah, I know now. Sausage rolls are sell here as well, but not as popular as your place are.

Well, you had to give a taste test to one before you photographed them. You wouldn’t want to share a picture of bad-tasting food, would you?!

@Ronrybs That's the only way to buy such things. Every time we shop at the big mall, we succumb and buy two croissants with strawberries. The girl knows us now.

Of course you did! I like jam tarts as long as there isn't too much jam in them and they've been baked with the jam in them.

I used to put too much jam in them and they'd spill out of the pastry shells.

I bought puff pastry twice. I have a recipe to make it but haven’t tried yet. Your tarts look yummy. I have never had these. I thought it was apricot jam until I read what you wrote.
