Cliffs at the Great Australian Bight

The photo shows the cliffs of part of the Great Australian Bight, a large open bay off the central southern coast of Australia. Much of it is due south of the Nullarbor Plain, a treeless plain, and largely uninhabited. The Eyre Highway passes close to the cliffs in places and you can drive in off the highway to view the cliffs, camp for the night and hopefully see southern right whales perhaps when they come from their summer feeding grounds in the Antarctic to calve and breed. They do not feed until they return to the Antarctic. The Nullarbor Plain is very flat and receives very little rainfall. The underlying limestone features a number of caves, and is a favoured location with speleologists or cave explorers. The photo was taken by Vince and is used with permission.

@Fleura Same as you, I fear the heights and I have the feeling to fall from those high cliffs.

@LadyDuck I always have a nasty feeling that I'm going to be pushed - even if there is no-one else around!

Sometimes the sea is incredibly blue. And there is a sort of haze to this one too.

The Bight itself is often very rough for shipping but it sure looks great from the shore.

It's a long way across the Nullarbor so a lot of people like to take a break for a while.

It's certainly beautiful and quite isolated although there is now an area with a cafe, kiosk etc and a boardwalk from which you can watch the whales.

He never minds me showing his photos but I like to acknowledge him especially when I take so many of my own now. We were going across Australia with the caravan and pulled into a couple of places to take photos.

The cave entrances are just holes in the ground and you need the proper equipment to get into them. I don't think there are any open to the public but wouldn't it be something to go exploring them?

WOW, what a beautiful shot. I've never before seen aqua oceans, usually the ones I have seen were a bluish gray or some such color. Vince could open an exhibit, his shots are amazing.

@JudyEv — sometimes the Ocean changes shades on us just to keep us guessing. The beautiful water in the Keys was quite ugly when Ian went by last year.

One site says the Bunda cliffs go for 100 kms but another says 220 kms. I don't have the energy at the moment to try to sort out the discrepancy but it's a long way.
