Are they running security checks on us perhaps?

We heard some intriguing news today. In about two weeks, we are going to a house in Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Joe Biden, President of the United States, is going to Ireland at Easter to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Peace Accord. One of his ancestral Irish homes is apparently immediately behind the house we’ll be staying in and it seems Biden might be visiting the town. And this year marks the 300th anniversary of the formal establishment of the town of Ballina which would make it even more likely that he’ll visit. I wonder if we’ll get to see him or if we’ll get turfed out of our home for security reasons. No strong political comments please. The photo is of the shrine at Knock in Co. Mayo. It is where some young children saw a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary and others.

@JudyEv I think all of our current politicians are pretty weak.

@evilamericans Most of ours too but then, who'd want to be a politician? No-one in their right mind, which explains a lot I guess.

Strong political comments. If I think of one I shall be back. In the meantime I must go and use the Bidet.

@JimBo452020 It's not an Aussie thing either but Vince is thinking about having one installed as we get more and more decrepit.

Well, thta would be interesting...and the town will definitely be talking about it for years to come. Having lived near the DC area for a number of years, I have seen a few Presidential motorcades...always entertaining.

@JudyEv The worst part is it will probably tie up traffic and maybe temporarily close down a street or two.

@snowy22315 I should think that would be a given so whether we decide we want to be bothered or not, I can't say. I'll guess we'll decide when the time comes.

I won't mind being there if it happens. Just another experience/adventure/whatever. It will be huge for the town of course.

Oh, good, you’ll be just like me…with an FBI file! (I had a security clearance in the Navy, that’s why I had one.) BTW, Christie Moore did a song about the apparitions in Knock.

Thanks for the link. They just might suspect two old fogies travelling from little old WA to be there when the US president is.

That song is pretty spot on about all the religious shops and chip shops lining the main street. It seemed pretty commercialised to me but no doubt the shrine meant a lot of many of the visitors.

I hope you won't be inconvenienced by Biden visiting his ancestral home. I'm sure though that security will be heavy as he travels around. Wave as he goes by so if it's televised here we can see you

@JudyEv Normally, there is a multi layered security and in New Delhi, such a visit would have meant a high security deployment plus big time traffic movement disruption.

Whenever the president will be anywhere, there are always going to be very swift and strong security protocols in place, and that includes attendees to some extent. I have no interest in seeing him.

@JudyEv Yeah. No. I get it. One respects the office. I have even said, many times, that if I am ever called to the White House, regardless of my thoughts of the sitting president, I have an obligation as a citizen in respect for country and office to show up.

Oh, I have read about the children seeing the Blessed Virgin, So, this is the place. I didn't know it was in Ireland. About Pres. Biden, is it the first time for an American president to visit Ireland? I guess he would go there because from what I know he is a Catholic. Whether you want to catch a glimpse of the president or not will depend upon what you're comfortable with the most. But if I were there, I would definitely want to see him, so I can say that I've been there. . Incidentally, one of my favorite novels is "Trinity" by Leon Uris. And the author described the scenes so realistically that I was wondering if these indeed happened there. That made me want to visit Ireland in the future if God permits.

There are dozens and dozens of pilgrims at Knock but to me, it seemed very commercialised. John F Kennedy had Irish roots too and I'm sure he visited Ireland. I don't know about any others.
