Endurance ride participants

I’ve made up a collage from the horse endurance ride that we attended yesterday. It was held in a little place called Wilga which was once a timber town. There is a small settlement there and every month or so they have a fish and chip night at the hall. They do the same when the endurance ride is held as it is a fund-raiser for the community and the riders and their helpers appreciate not having to worry about taking an evening meal. There is no electricity there for campers. Notice how three of the riders have stirrups that won’t allow their foot to slip right through if they should fall off.

So you and Vince ate fish and chips last night after you took the photographs of the riders? You just didn't want to cook... Yes, I can see the closed end on the stirrups. That's a good safety feature.

I never want to cook. Mostly, there is some sort of canteen but not always.

There has been a lot of accidents over the years where a rider has fallen off and his foot has gone completely through the stirrup. When this happens, the horse gets frightened and takes off, dragging the rider.

Yes, we stay overnight in the caravan. We take photos in the vet ring on the Friday afternoon, sleep the night there and go out on the track on Saturday morning.

Shows how much I know about riding horses. All the stirrups look the same to me.

The top right rider has normal stirrups; the others have the covered toes so the foot can't slip through the stirrup and the rider can't get dragged.

@JudyEv I’ll take your word for it. I still can’t see the difference. I’m on my small iPad, that might be the problem.

Beautiful horses. When I rode, not very often at all, I always had stirrups.

I'm sure the very early horse riders would have thought they were a great invention.

I really like the bottom right shot, the rider looks like hes having a lot of fun and you captured the speed of that horse. I don't know much about saddles so I won't even comment on that aspect.

They are, aren't they? There were two of the greys with the darker 'points' (legs, mane and tail). They are very striking.
