What color to make our kitchen?

We are going to remodel our kitchen as that’s what my mom wants to do. She asked me what color kitchen I want. I told her that I have no idea. I will figure that out when I see the samples the kitchen guy gives us to look at.
I know I don’t want a dark kitchen. And I don’t want a very bright one either. I would also prefer that the kitchen cabinets are not a solid color but more resemble a piece of wood when you cut into it. I hope the guy will have those as an option.

When I was little my parents had a red kitchen. That’s too bright I think. Ours now is white. I want something different.

We live in a rental house. Everything in this house is blindingly white. Believe me, you don't want that color. Tell your mom you're thinking you'd like shiny black and eye-searing purple for the walls/trim in the kitchen and appliances to match.
We painted our last house a nice dark cream. The kitchen cabinets there were oak. The combination looked very nice together.

Cabinets we have now are white and they have round black handles. Countertop is I think a mix of blue/gray. Unless I’m wrong. Picture doesn’t seem to come out how it really looks color-wise.

I like the white cabinet with black handle look but white gets dirty easier and is more visible when it’s dirty. Think white not good idea.

@lovebuglena That's why the cabinets in our last house were made from oak. It doesn't show dirt very much. They had dark handles... I really liked them.

Our kitchen wall color is called silver satin. If it were me I'd go a shade darker in that color palette but hubby wanted this one. Shouldn't have listened to him. The rest of the house we got the colors I chose and they go really well together. Not that it will tell you anything lol but they are called nosegay, piano concerto, and raindrops on roses. They are in the purple/violet hues.

We have white cabinets which I don't like and a greenish/blueish color on the walls to go with the linoleum in the kitchen and the white wicker furniture in the "Florida Room".

I like my white cabinets with black handles but they easily get dirty and you see stuff on it easier than if it were a darker color.
