Nashville Elementary School Shooting - Editing With Breaking Details

Metro Police are investigating a shooting that just happened this morning at The Covenant Presbyterian Elementary School.
Covenant School is a private Christian institution for students up to 6th grade, according to its website. Three students were killed in the attack, according to Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Police say officers engaged with and killed the shooter.
Three students and the shooter are dead, according to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. An ongoing investigation of course. More details will be shared soon.
I have a friend that has a daughter at this school. Waiting to hear from her.
**EDIT: VUMC (Vanderbilt) also confirms two adults have been killed in the shooting. Three students and three adults are dead, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. The shooter entered the school through a side entrance with two assault-style rifles and a handgun. Officers arrived and entered the school through the first floor and heard shots coming from the second floor.
MNPD said the responding officers engaged the shooter, who is female, on the second floor and killed her at 10:27 a.m. The age of the shooter is uncertain but she appeared to be a teenager.
Law enforcement is working to contact the families of victims, none of whom have been publicly identified. Police have yet to establish any connection the shooter may have had with the school.
**The shooter has been identified as a 28 y/o female. She was from Nashville, white, and a student at the school in the past.
**All three students were 9 years old. The Head Mistress was killed, and two staff members. The victims have been identified as Cynthia Peak (substitute teacher), age 61, Katherine Koonce (Head Mistress), age 60, and Mike Hill (custodian), age 61. A 28-year-old Nashville woman (transgender), identified as the shooter, Audrey Hale. A detailed map and manifesto were found at the shooter's residence.
3-28 Update: Shooter left message with friend saying goodbye and how she "needed to die and I have left more than enough evidence behind for this to make sense".

Carol, you and I posted about this at the exact same time. This was a school for preschoolers and kindergarteners! Babies aren't even safe now.
This just makes me so sick at heart. I hope your friend's daughter is safe.

My god how awful. I can’t understand why someone at that age would go into a school full of children and shoot people. It’s absolutely horrible and total craziness. I don’t know if I want to hear more about why they think this person did it or never hear about it again it’s so horrible

@CarolDM Keeping them in thoughts and prayers. Another post here mentioned that there are very young kids there. They must be traumatized

OMG, this is terrible. I'm so sick and tired of those assault rifles being made available to the public, it's time the manufacturers of those be held accountable for selling them in the open market. My condolences to all the families that lost a loved one.

@CarolDM The medical centre that you quoted was where you had your surgery last summer, so I thought that it was in your area.
How very sad, I cannot begin to imagine how those adults, and the children, must feel. There would be so many questions from children which have to be addressed, but must be painful for the adults to discuss.

Another school shooting and I can't believe that this is still going on. It's tragic, heartbreaking and makes me sick that our children aren't safe in school anymore. The one place they should be safe and they aren't. When is it going to stop????

Somewhere there was a breakdown in awareness of this woman's problems. We need to start figuring out WHY these shooters are doing what they do and get them some help.

@LindaOHio And that is how they want to keep it, a secret. Something to hide for sure. She left her friend a message minutes before the shooting telling her where to find the manifesto.

Very heartbreaking for sure. My friend's daughter is safe, I was so worried. Such a shock to all of our area right now. This one hit too close to home. These young students (babies) saw more than they should have. My thoughts are with all of these families.
