A Golden Eagle

My daughter in law and I went to the park to walk in the cool of the morning. It was a beautiful sunny day. Perfect for an early morning walk. I enjoy walking by the creek and through the woods but my daughter in law enjoys the wide track at the park.
Looking up in the tall trees we saw a large bird perched on a limb. A large nest was just below it. We stopped an looked at it. The bird didn’t fly away. It was too big for a Hawk and it didn’t mind us standing looking at it. I made a picture and we finally moved on
My daughter in law looked it up and it was a Golden Eagle. You can hardly find the Eagle in the picture. It was high in the tree. I wish I could have gotten a close up picture. Anyway, do you see the Eagle in the tree?

@RubyHawk That's what I thought, too. I've never seen them in my part of Missouri, either.

@DaddyEvil That’s wonderful news. Hopefully we’ll begin to see more Eagles in our part of Georgia.

I don't see it. I will take your word for it though. I thought they were only out West. I have seen bald eagles but only close up in zoos. One time on a river cruise we saw a group of them, and one time getting a gas...a guy said, I just saw a bald eagle. He pointed up in the trees. Maybe he did, but by the time I looked it was gone. They are around..but more in the tidal areas I think.

We have a few eagles that visit our tiny lake from time to time to fish. And there is a river not far away from me, I see them often there, too. But they are bald eagles, not Golden. Maybe you will see it again, since you know where the nest is now.

I would, too. Maybe you can see it a bit closer to you, also.

I think we have the largest eagle here - the monkey-eating eagle. I'm sorry I can't seem to see the eagle in the pic. Is it the black image in the second tree from the left? My eyes are failing me. I'm scared of eagles too. I've never seen one in real life though.

@changjiangzhibin89 This one didn't move while we were in the park. Most birds fly away quickly.

@RebeccasFarm It’s the first Golden Eagle I’d seen. I’ve seen the dark feathered ones.

I can see the eagle in the tree!
I've never even heard of golden eagles. I think it's really cool that you saw one! For a while, we had a pair of bald eagles nesting somewhere around the area where I live, as there would be sightings of them everywhere, but it's been more than a year since anyone has last seen them. I hope nothing bad happened to them.

@RubyHawk I follow a few eagle cams on Twitter, and it's really cool to watch the majestic birds care for their young.

All eagles are scarce. I have seen the darker feathered eagles but this was my first Golden Eagle. When we lived near a lake eagles nested in top of the pine trees. I loved watching them.A few years ago there were eagles nesting at Berry College. There were videos of the eagles and their eggs hatching.

@moffittjc I haven't seen those. I watched the ones at Rome until they left the nest. If I remember correctly they abandoned the nest and never came back. I wonder if they build new nests every year.

That is a great thing to see. We have Bald Eagles nesting in a local park here by the Willamette River.

I don't see the eagle; but they are great to spot. An eagle pooped on my husband when we were on our west coast trip.
