How do Movies Really Work?

I love movies, even went to them by myself when I was a kid. These days, I watch them on TV and still love them. Because I have done some work as an extra on TV shows and movies filmed here in Oregon, I see the way it works and how they film things. They aren't done in order necessarily and lots of editing is done before the final product is released, so it's a kind of magic and real artistry when they film a scene in one place and sometimes, they film the same scene several times from different angles and then patch it all together so it makes sense. We watch it and get involved with the characters. They seem real to us. That is the magic of movies for me. We can lose ourselves for an hour or two, suspend our disbelief and just enjoy it. I like several different kinds of movies. Do you have a favorite?

I like some of the animated movies. I'm not keen on the weirdness people like from Japan lately but I do like The Simpsons and some of the other animated stuff on television. (I actually watch them on my laptop.) I also like the animated movies made for kids.

I like some animated things too. Did you know that the Simpsons originated in Springfield, Oregon? That's the town across the river from where I live.

@JamesHxstatic No, I didn't know that. I think the producer for them wanted people to think they came from all over the US.

@DaddyEvil He was living in Springfield when he started the strip. There's a big mural there.

I love Korean movies and dramas too. I think the reason they make impressive movies is because everybody's a perfectionist, from directors to the actors to the staff. They give it their 100% always

@jiwonnie ,i agree, but maybe the perfectionist came from fierce competition,I heard there were fierce competition in Korea all the time,if they created imperfect movie,no audience like it and pay for watching movie, then the movie worker will lose job.the huge living pressure make them perfectionist.

There are a few movies I loved. Gone with the wind, Snankshaw Redemption. and a few others. I have watched films about how movies are made and how the fake places are built on movie lots. It’s all interesting.

In my later years, I am enjoying thrillers. I love the ones I can't guess the murderer in. Last night I watched one and got it half right. In this one there were two involved in the murder and I had figured out one. The movies I really enjoy are the ones where I like the characters and their lives so well much that I don't want to say goodbye at the end. Now that's a good movie.

I like thrillers too, The ones I don't like are the caper movies, where they get the old gang together to rob a casino or something.

In one, "Bad Exorcists," I played a doc and had some lines. I got featured in an episode of Amercian Vandals a few years ago, but the scene was cut. I still got paid an extra $600. That first one is still on Amazon.

Same as you, I love movies and we watch a movie every evening before going to sleep. My favorite are mystery, crime, true stories, spy stories, comedy, even some musicals. I loved The Phantom of the Opera.

Somehow, I knew how movies are made and edited. Probably from reading or watching how movies are made - lol. I have too many movies that I truly enjoyed. One of my favorites is Being There with Peter Sellers. Have you seen it?

From reading autobiographies of some stars, they don't always know the 'whole story' so to speak either. They are often asked to do scenes out of context. That's probably more common than not. I like comedy I guess and light dramas but not horror or too much violence.

Both Anne and me were in one that had 3 alternate endings. We were in a kitchen (some Portland apartment) and basically adlibbed some lines. There was a young couple doing yoga, and I don't recall the third, but the yoga couple was used.

@JamesHxstatic The more I think about how they make some scenes with cameras right in their faces, the more respect I have the actors.

I played a small part in a movie many years ago so l have an idea about what goes on. I like movies based on life in the 18th and 19th century. Some light comedies, some action, some ninja and kungfu and some religious movies from way back.

I like people more than I like movies, so there is not a genre I wouldn't watch... if I have to. It's great you acted in a movie. Possibly I will find it and watch the part you feature in. :) I like science fiction which involve character stories.

I do like movies especially action/thriller types. I've always wondered how it would be to see them actually film a movie. I know they don't film them in sequence so that's what interests me most
