As children, we all had those times where we said, “I fall down and go boom.” (Or some variation.) well, here I am, 60 years later, and I fell down and went boom again! And you know what?? It was worth every ache! Look at those pictures!!! This was my final stop yesterday (May 2). It’s Noccalula Falls in Gadsden, Alabama. The waterfall is named for an American Indian princess who jumped into the falls rather than be married to someone her tribal leaders had arranged for her to wed. Wow, what a hike down the gorge (where I fell…more on that later)! My phone’s pedometer says I walked over five miles yesterday and 14 flights of stairs (or the equivalent, going up those hills) between this place and Cloudland Canyon. Worth every step, too. Just to be silly, I put the photo from the bottom of the falls on top. If you’re more adventurous (and haven’t fallen on the way down ) you can walk completely behind the waterfall! Up at the top, there’s a statue depicting Noccalula in a pose that appears to have her ready to jump. As for the fall at the falls…. I have a paper mask for pollen protection outside. I wrote “Sneezin’ Season” on it, because the allergies have been awful this year. Anyway, on the way down my foot was on a rock when my nose decided to expel some pollen. The sneeze and I both hit the ground. No injuries are reported here. I do have a bruise on my shoulder (but it doesn’t hurt) and a scrape on my knee (ditto). There’s the aches that anyone feels after a minor fall, but that’s it. And just look at the view!!!!

It happens. At least nothing was broken like 2015 (broke my ankle in the snow in Chicago).

@FourWalls I think you've talked about breaking your ankle before. I've fallen several times yesterday and today. At least I just hit the floor here at home. I bruised my tush but that's all that happened.

Those are great photos. We have a few waterfalls where you can get in behind them.

That’s a lot of fun. There was one in Falls Creek Falls State Park where people could even swim in the pool where the falls landed.

@FourWalls There is one like that in Karjini National Park in the north of our state. I'll add a photo. You can see a little stick-like figure under the waterfall. There would be more water in the winter.

The little aches (easily treated with Tylenol) were soooooo worth that view! Truthfully, my thighs hurt more from using climbing muscles in the, that had probably long forgotten how to work than from the fall.

That looks really lovely! Heh. I was wondering before I read if you could get behind that one Fall. As I say to my kids, "I lie your owies! They show you've been playing hard. But I'm gld you're OK."

I still say that... And I have to say, Indian princesses are apt to jump off just about any gorge with a waterfall. That was the story about "Lover's Leap" in Elora, Ontario, when I lived there in the 60s. All incidents are probaby apocryphal, though.

Ouch, I a sorry you fell, this can be dangerous, I hope nothing is broken and you will feel well soon. Those photos are beautiful. I could have never been brave enough to walk behind a waterfall. When I was young this made my Mom mad.

There’s a waterfall in the Smoky Mountains that you can walk behind as well. I did that. This one was running a little (a LOT) more forcefully than the one in the Smokies, and that can bring down a chunk of rock. So I admired it from the side and front.

@FourWalls I love to see the water, but I cannot get too close to the water, I have a sentiment of fear.

I usually nurse a sore back after a trip, so obviously I don’t worry about the pain. The beauty of the falls is more than adequate compensation!!

I’m more sore from all of the walking than just that little tumble. I’m not used to walking five miles up and down hilly terrain.
