Red White & Blue On My Deck

Happy to have found a new Hibiscus plant for my deck. Already seeing huge red blooms. Hummingbirds are enjoying. When butterflies arrive in a few weeks, they will visit the nectar as well. A few of the nurseries were late in getting plant inventory here, due to the harsh winter we had. This is one of my favorites to have on the deck. It will bloom all summer and into the fall. Then I will bring it indoors for the winter. I can see red, white and blue colors here, to represent the lives lost while serving in the United States Armed Forces, on this Memorial Day. We should never forget the lives gone and the families that still suffer.

Many will never forget. I used to go to the cemetery when I was younger and would see so many families visiting the graves at the Ft Bliss Cemetery but now that I've gotten old I don't feel safe driving on busy streets anymore.

This one is so easy Keith. Start with a small plant, and make sure it gets plenty of sunshine and water. I went many years without growing anything until I tried one day and I am still learning.

A former talk show host in New Orleans did always mention on his talking points before he gave his thoughts of the news events of the day that Memorial Day should be a day where everyone of us should go to a grave of a fallen soldier and place a flower and thank them for their service to our nation,

Beautiful red blooms! We have a couple hibiscus, but they surprisingly have not bloomed yet (maybe too many gray days?) . . . will keep waiting.

@CarolDM It's quite spectacular when they bloom! Looking at ours a bit closer, a lot of new leaves are about to start coming in . . . maybe it's just a seriously late bloomer. Enjoy your lovely blooms!!

Your Hibiscus plant is gorgeous. I made the mistake to listen to my gardener and let mine outside during the winter. Of course it did not survive.

Appreciate you Anna. I have always loved this one best of all probably. Hummers and butterflies do as well. I did that once too and lost it. I now bring it indoors. I keep it on a rolling piant stand, have learned over the years.

Thanks, I try to keep this one on my deck. Hummers and butterflies love it, and I enjoy the saucer size blooms. I had four new blooms today. To celebrate the four bluebird babies perhaps.
