Frist Glimpse

I have made a few of my friends confused when I said I was going to have a baby. So here's a first glimpse of Sophia Louise, whom we will be calling Sophie. I may be judged. Some may think I'm crazy, even a creepy lady, and maybe some might understand. What you're seeing in the photo is a reborn doll kit which was sculpted by a very popular artist among the reborn community, Bonnie Brown from Australia. I bought the kit online at Macpherson Arts & Crafts in Canada, an official distributor of the kit. The kit is called Laura because it's the name of the real baby Bonnie Brown patterned this sculpt from. The photo contains a blank canvas and the certificate of authenticity. This is my actual kit that was sent to me. I hired a local artist to "reborn" this kit for me. She will be painting the kit, add weight to it using glass beads and poly fill, assemble it, and dress her up, turning her into a real looking baby. She arrived at my artist's doorstep last Friday and she will start working on her this week. She constantly updates me with everything, from the time the kit was purchased until it was delivered. It took only a little over two weeks I think. You'll be seeing more of Sophie here coz I'll be posting each time the artist updates me.

There's nothing wrong with you wanting a forever baby... I will admit, it's usually an older lady who needs one of this type of doll but there's nothing wrong with you being her mother. You'll only hear/see support from me.

@DaddyEvil He doesn't know yet. And I don't have the baby yet. Sophie is still with my artist who lives far away from me. Sophie will be taking several hours by land and an hour by plane to get to me after my artist is done with her. It will also take a long time painting her. Finding an artist in this country is very difficult. Sophie is a customized baby. If I buy from an artist in another country, I wouldn't have her customized as it would be way too expensive. A reborn doll done by an artist in another country can cost $600-$2000 and that does not include shipping cost and the very high custom tax I would be paying.

Thanks for that support. One of my friends told me I should just make a real baby instead, but I told him, that would be much more expensive and I'm old.

@toniganzon You aren't and never will be "old". But yes, your new baby won't cost as much as your real "baby"... I hope he's doing well... What does he say about your new baby?

@toniganzon I had a lovely doll for many years until I lent them to my daughters to play with her. They destroyed her in days.

@marguicha oh dear that's sad. Reborn dolls are not for kids though. They are considered as an art, a collectible one. They're considered as fragile and must be held like you're holding a real baby coz they really look like one. Unsupervised children are not allowed to touch it actually. And it costs an arm and a leg. The cheapest reborn doll I've seen from reputable artists wasn$600 and it could go as high as $2000. So I definitely wouldn't let a child play with that.

I don't give a damn about others. If I did, then I wouldn't have gotten myself a reborn baby in the first place.

I was sure it was not a "live baby", in fact I commented we had to expect "a surprise" You are not crazy, I often looked at those reborn kits and I also watched YouTube videos. Those dolls are beautiful. I know it would look like a real baby once painted and dressed.

@toniganzon - I remember how much I loved that doll, it was "advanced technology" for the year 1955 when I received it as a gift for Christmas.

@toniganzon - I never liked dolls and the only one I loved one I was y girl was a doll who looked like a baby, it had a small key in the back, if turned, she moved her arms and legs. It is the one in the photo, 62 years old doll.

Absolutely incredible. I say it doesn't matter what others think. If this makes you happy, go for it. I can't wait to see more of Sophie.

I couldn't care less what others say. You know me. I do whatever makes me happy and as long as I don't bother other people.

@CarolDM Yes it's best that we shouldn't care what others have to say as long as we are happy, not breaking the law, and not being a burden to others.

That is amazing to have one actually. More like immortalizing your baby in that sculpture or doll instead of pictures only.

@rsa101 I already paid for everything. Just waiting for it to be done and be delivered. I paid last month so the artist could order the kit in Canada. She updates me with the progress regularly.

Right and it's actually a work of art which means it also costs an arm and a leg.

Oh, reborn dolls aren't for kids. They're mostly collected by serious doll collector, mostly grandmas. They're done by artists and cost an arm and a leg. But I have seen "reborn" factory made dolls that children play with.

I believe so. That's why nobody can stop me. I also can't wait to see her. My artist started working on her today and she told me she will send me an update which she never fails to do anyway from the time we purchased the kit.

The reborn baby is the one that's already completed by a reborn artists. There are also those being sold at stores and even amazon. But most so called reborn baby on amazon is machine made, that's why it's very cheap and they're doll looking ones. Those made by artists don't can never be mistaken as a doll. Everybody gets fooled coz these dolls really look like real babies.
