Do You Talk While Having Your Meal?

It's a very old saying that we shouldn't talk while having our meal and should focus on food while having it. But still I see people talk while having their meals. Little bit talk is fine but some are so talkative that they keep talking all the time and it feels bad to have our meal in their company lol. Do You Talk While Having Your Meal?

I don't mind people talking during meals, but I do mind them talking with their mouth open. My great grandfather used to talk with his mouth open while he chewed, and it was gross. However, we all had such great respect for him that no one ever corrected him. But oh, it was unpleasant.

@AmbiePam My grandma used to occasionally take out her dentures, to pick off any berry seeds! Gross At the dinner table? Yucky!

@kobesbuddy this happened recently with my uncle it was so terrible removing his dentures and doing that I felt so bad the food couldn't go down my throat

No And I don't like when people talk whilst they are chewing. We were taught as children that it is bad manners to do so.

We don't have a dining table so Pretty and I take our food to our bedrooms to eat. Nobody to talk to there. When we ate together, we'd chitchat during the meal. When I was growing up, mom always asked each of us what we'd done during the day while we ate

The most we might say during our mealtime, ''This chicken is delicious! Or, sorry I used too much spice on those veggies!" Other than this, we never carry on a conversation while eating together. Is it forbidden? No.

@Butterfingers If I say something, Jay usually doesn't listen when he's eating. So, he turns the news on, during our suppertime.

We have an old saying here: Eating and sleeping without speaking. But I don't really agree to it. Try to imagine, the meal time or the time before sleep is the best time to communicate with your family

We use our meals as a chance to reconnect and talk. It is one time we come together. That is home meals. Often if we eat out Bob is concentrating on food, distracted by conversations around us and he does not talk.
