The sky starte red this morning, and then overcast. The wind came up and we had rain. The wind continued to be strange. We were starting our session with our second group of students and the tornado sirens went off around town. We went in a line to the Sports Aquatic Center across the street. It has a secure basement that will accommodate the entire school and then some. We joined the kids that had been in swimming lessons. We were eventually notified that the wind had caused the sirens to malfunction, and we returned to class. The rain stopped, the sun came out. Better safe than sorry.

I am glad it was only a problem of malfunction.

@GardenGerty - This is true, I am glad we had a shelter accessible from the basement.

Yes. And the city let us know pretty quickly that it was actually safe.

Well, that broke up the day. I remember taking a computer course one year when the fire alarm went off. We were out about half an hour.

It did break up the day, but our class times are short anyway. At least no one panicked. I have been told that if we are in town during severe weather and the sirens go off we can go to this same building.

I'm glad it turned out to be a false alarm.

Me too. We have not ever had a tornado really close. But we have had warnings before.

I'm glad there were no tornados and that you all got to a safe place anyway. It got nasty looking here this afternoon and we had a storm around 3 pm that lasted about an hour. We had some heavy wind but nothing else happened here. The sun is back out now.

What a relief that must have been. We had a warning last year and I grabbed a blanket, pillow, book, flashlight and bottle of water and went in the bathroom. It blew over too.

@GardenGerty It’s different when you’re away from home.

The malfunction sounds annoying, but glad that your evacuation plan seems to be working. Do you do mock drills?

During the school year we do have drills. We practice going to this building, plus we practice how we would shelter in the restrooms if we could not get to the building.

The wind must have been something to cause the sirens to malfunction! It’s good to know it was a false alarm.

The city was on top of things posting to Facebook and on their website about it being safe.

That made my heart race! Good that it was not a tornado - phew - but well, I guess this malfunction served as a "drill". Yep, better safe than sorry.

It seems we have fewer drills than we used to. So this was part of our "education" for the day.

Yeah. At least these were older kids, 10-12 and they did not panic and knew what to do.
