There was a knock on my door

July 22, 2023 8:37am CST
It had to have been 7:30 or earlier and a man was at my door offering to take out the tree.
The 30-50 foot cedar tree that attacked my house.
I told him I could not really afford to pay until I hear from insurance. He offered to do it for $40.
He has cleaned up the trees on city property across the street already this morning.
Now there is another guy helping him
I plan to pay more than that. It is such a blessing to have him working on helping get my mess cleaned up. Much faster than Bob every could. Or I ever could.
I will likely pay him twice that much in all honesty.
Happy Saturday morning to you all.

I wish, but no, it was Terry and Andy removing the monster tree. Terry said he saw it fall on the roof and then roll right off to the side.

It took about five hours, and that involved hauling it all away.

It is possible, I guess, but it was splintered at about 12 feet high. At this point it has been taken to the community burn pile. One big chunk might have been salvageable, but I would be surprised. He said he knows I work for the school and do not get a check in the summer.

A professional tree trimmer and service would have charged at least $2500. I feel blessed.

Such a huge surprise. I did pay them $80. Both are city employees but they are off today. They have been all over town cleaning up trees.

@GardenGerty I don't blame them. If I could earn extra money that way, I would.

I hope he's legitimate. I would pay more than $40 too. I hope your insurance company contacts you soon. Enjoy your day.

Oh yeah, he is legitimate. He works for the city but of course today he was using his personal equipment. I know his mom, and he has helped me out with another "emergency" in the past.

@GardenGerty Oh, that's great. They charge BIG BUCKS to take down or clean up a tree. You are very lucky.

Yeah, I was gonna say "$40? Cheap at twice the price." Who gets to keep the firewood?

The trees from all over town have been taken to the community burn pile. With the drought like conditions it will likely stay there a while but anyone who wants it can go get it if they choose.

@BarBaraPrz Not that I know of. That would be pretty labor intensive for our tiny town. They just wait for correct conditions and burn it all.

Glad it will be gone. When I had the tornado here the insurance company took down the big tree. However there were other trees down. I had people coming out of the woodwork giving me their cards and offering to do work.

I was so worried about the roof itself that I had not thought to file a claim yet. These two guys work for the city and have been cleaning up all over.

Nice of him to do it for such a price. Nice of you to give him more. Seems to work out very well. One of those win-wins.

I know from experience that taking out a tree that large costs thousands of dollars. I am pleased at this.

@GardenGerty .........Usually, it is so costly because of the equipment they have to use and cutting around power lines.

Nope, it went straight to the city burn pile. There are some scraps and debris we will clean up but Wow! that left a big lot of sunshine in my yard.

There are little bits of cedar twigs, etc. We can easily deal with that though. It does make a huge difference.
