I just saved myself $300!

Now I sound like Horse. I was researching KitchenAid stand mixers and the're rather expensive. Recently when I made that gluten free bread, I used my hand mixer. What a mess it made! I cleaned batter off everything. Then the proverbial light bulb went off. I remembered I have two spiral attachments I've never used and I suspect (hope) this will work much better for next time. Sure, I won't have the convenience of the mixer mixing the dough for me. But to save $300, I can stand there a few minutes and hold the mixer. I'll let you know if it works well. There are some myLoters who can give me some advice, I'm sure. Any experience with stand mixers? Are they worth the cost?

I mix bread dough the old fashioned way. With my hands. My mother taught me well.

Every penny, I have a Kitchen Aide and it is a marvel. I have a stand one and a handheld, it depends on what I am doing. I like them both for different things. I prefer my Kitchen Aide hand mixer for whipping cream, the stand is better for batter. Mine has a dough hook for bread.

@1creekgirl I do but I have to confess one of my friends got a new stand mixer from her hubs and gave me her old kitchen aide. It is white but works great.

I mix my bread dough with my hands, I have a sand mixer and I have the feeling I do a better job.

@1creekgirl Not all days you need the same quantity of water, as the difference of the humidity of the air makes a differece.

I can help really with recommendations but we have those spiral things. They work well. It might depend on how tough/thick the dough is as to whether they can will work well.

Everyone I know who has one of those mixers raves about them, but I think your idea is better. I've been low on money too long to spend that much money on something I don't use every single day. I do wish you would be able to treat yourself though. Maybe as a victorious over cancer kind of thing?

Maybe. As much as I'd like one, I really don't do enough baking to justify spending $300 or more. Plus I really don't have room in my kitchen to store it. I really hope my new hand mixer will work with the spiral mixing attachments.

I do not have one, but I do not bake bread either. I cannot justify the space that they take up enough to buy one.

We bought our son a kitchenAide standing mixer a few Christmas seasons ago. He loves it. He does a lot of baking. We got his when they had a special. It came with a good many attachments and was marked down a good bit. I can’t remember exactly what we paid, but it wasn’t near $300. Maybe over $200.

I can give you both sides of a stand mixer. I spent a fortune on mine because it was something I always wanted but couldn't' afford. So when I could afford it I got it and used it once to make cookies. Now it stands alone on a shelf in my garage since I really don't use it and prefer a hand mixer. The other side is my oldest daughter has one and loves it. It has permanent residence on her kitchen counter and she uses it all the time and swears by it. Hope that helped

I love my stand mixer...and they last forever. But if the hand mixer works for you, then that is what you should use. Enjoy your day.

I'd love to have a stand mixer if I had more kitchen space and they weren't so expensive.

I had a KitchenAid stand mixer. Oh, they do a great job, but I have no place on my counter to store it. That leaves a cabinet or a pantry, and I have no room in those, either, my kitchen isn't large. I didn't use it often because it weighe a TON, so I sold mine. I have a KitchenAid hand mixer and my hands, and a breadmaker. I do fine without it, even making all the cookies that I do. I know what you mean, $300 plus is a lot for a mixer.

@1creekgirl If you use a breadmaker, it eliminates having to knead the dough, which helps a lot.

I bought one of those on one of the internet selling sites, and it sat in the cupboard for about a year. I thought I would be using it all the time, and I never did. Plus that thing weighed a ton. I sold it for more than I paid for it, so that was a win I guess.

For me, nothing is worth paying that amount of money except if I save it for a plane fare to a holiday. I don´t mind spending more on the best bread I can buy at a good bakery because I don´t eat a lot of it.
