Did That Sign Say Waterfall?

For a lot of people, my vacations must seem incredibly boring. You see one Civil War battlefield, you’ve seen ‘em all. See one Navy ship, you’ve seen ‘em all. And, you see one waterfall, you’ve seen ‘em all. Not to me. This is Crabtree Falls. I ran into it along the way to Appomattox Court House after I got off the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are two falls there. If you enlarge the photo and look in the background through the trees you’ll see the upper falls. The lower waterfall is the obvious one. Since I was still in a little pain and it was muggy there was no way I was going to hike 1 3/4 miles (one way) to the upper falls; however, the sign said the lower falls trail was only 500 feet. Plus, I could see them both! For me, a waterfall makes a vacation better.

I'm not the biggest history buff, but certainly I would love to check out these historical places. Hubby would love it - he loves history! No two places are the same - even in nature - even with waterfalls. Something about seeing and hearing water that recharges you!

“They” say that there’s a major benefit to the negative ions caused by waterfalls.

I'm really not that interested in history or battleships but the scenery along the way is amazing!

No wonder you’re always kicking the back of the seat when I take you along on a vacation! And here I thought it was because of the music I play!

@FourWalls No, I'm kicking the back of the seat because I keep winning my solitaire games on my phone.

I agree with you, never a waterfall is identical to another and I love them.

@FourWalls I like the movement of the water and the sound. Those not too high are my favorite.

I like seeing the waterfalls on the You Tube channel from Panama that are hosted by locals who live there and share parts of that nation I never visited during my time there from 1961-1978.

Ooh, I’ll check that out! Can’t go in person but watching it on the big-screen TV is a good substitute!

In most cases I'm not on board unless there is a palm tree or sandy beach on the agenda

@LindaOHio — thank God the severity of the storms stopped just before they got to Louisville. There were tornado warnings north of us, though.

There was some flowing water on those creeks and rivers that made them even prettier.

No, that's not true. Each place has its own energy and individualism. I am so envious that you get to get out and enjoy traveling and seeing things. Please do not ever stop sharing your adventures with us. Now hiking is another matter.

That is a beautiful waterfall, I would love to swim in a watering hole that ended at the bottom of a waterfall,

I’ve seen a lot that have that. I think there’s one in Grand Canyon. While you can’t swim, there’s a place at Laurel Falls in the Smokies where you can sit and soak your feet after the walk to it.

I totally agree that waterfalls make the vacation better . Love the scenic view . I remember one of our trekking trip that took us to a huge waterfall on the top in two hours and more. It was exhausting but worth. We saw few small streams of water and scenic beauty on the way up there.

One of my favorite hikes was in the Smokies, Grotto Falls. It was a hard trip for me but oh, was it worth it! Grotto Falls is famous there because you can walk behind the waterfall!

I love history. Love to see different sites, etc. and waterfalls are special. You take the type of vacations I know I would just love, unfortunately, my legs would not cooperate with uneven ground. I have a very special memory I made with my sister, we spent much time wondering around Oregon one summer, and ate lunch outside while watching and enjoying Multnomah Falls. Just incredible. I've been to many waterfalls, but that is my best memory of enjoying one. I do know that was due to the company, but still....
