Do You Like to Cook?

Analysis suggests that the early hominids may have started cooking as early as 1 to 2 million years ago. Analysis of burnt bone fragments and plant ashes from a cave in South Africa give evidence that early humans controlled fire by 1 million years ago. The earliest hearths have been reported to be 790,000 years old. I LOVED to cook. I have around 100 cookbooks; and cooking was one of my favorite hobbies. I can no longer cook; and it's one of the things that I miss the most. Some of my and my husband's favorites were spaghetti and meatballs, chili, stuffed cabbage, pork and sauerkraut, etc. I don't have an air fryer. I did most of my cooking in the oven or on the stove top. Occasionally I used a crock pot. My mother was not a good cook. I picked up some tips in Home Economics (Home ec) Class in junior high; but, for the most part, I am self-taught. Do you like to cook? Where did you learn how to cook? What are your specialties or favorite things to cook? Do you have a cookbook library? What is your favorite method? (oven, air fryer, etc.) Photo Credit: Pixabay - The photo I"m trying to post shows a big stock pot and some potatoes in the foreground.

I do love to cook! I enjoyed Home Ec in junior high. But most of my cooking I'd say is self-taught - I cook very differently from my mom. I used to collect cookbooks, but I can find nearly any recipe for free online these days. I don't know if I have a favorite method - I just like to eat, so as long as it comes out right .

I enjoy cooking. But I mostly add stuff to frozen stuff these days. My beef stroganoff, when I cook it from scratch, is the best I've ever had.

@TheHorse Cool. Save me a seat. I haven't been to CA in decades so wouldn't mind going again. Are you in the northern section? We saw a lot of wildlife in the northern part.

I enjoy cooking. My mom was a good cook. But I usually chose washing dishes, and my brothers chose cooks helper. So I learned from cook books, mainly. I have a lot but I'm trying to reduce the collection.

Yes I love to cook. I don't know how to cook but I learn them in school. I learn to follow recipes and then I can cook anything that I want. My brother loves buying books about cooking. I'm confident the food that I prepare are delicious

I loved to cook since I was a little girl watching my mom cook and asking to help in whatever way I could. My dad laughed but my mom had the horrors. At the age of 8 I pulled a stool over to the stove, stood on it, and prepared bacon and eggs for my parents to have breakfast in bed. I succeeded but mom had the What ifs on her mind

I know you miss something you love to do. I like to cook and like you, I was self taught. My mother never taught me anything. Poor Dale had a rough first years of marriage while I learned. But I think I'm doing well with gluten free cooking. I guess my favorite dishes to cook are fried okra (especially when it's fresh from our garden), chili, fudge, pecan pie, and venison veggie soup.

I do like to cook, and I suppose that's a good thing because I am cheap and home cooked food is cheaper. I am the primary cook in the house, so that works as well. Plus, I like to eat and be experimental as @NJChicaa would attest. I learned most of what I know from my mom, and my grandpa was an excellent cook as well. He could make a bean soup like nobody's business and I will tell you I can make a mean bean soup, but not one that has ever stood up to his.

I love bean soup. My mother was a horrible cook (except for potato gnocchi) but a terrific baker. I learned how to cook on my own and with cookbooks. Hope you have a great day.

@LindaOHio That's odd you mention that since my wife can't hard boil an egg but she CAN bake. At the same time I am a good cook but my baking sucks. If I bake you up a batch of cookies I will also offer a loaf of bread just to keep them moist. lol

I love to cook and I cook everyday three meals except when we are traveling or going out to eat. I started cooking very young from the age of eight. I have recipes passed down from grandmother and mother and others in family. And I have learnt some from friends and on YouTube.

I like to cook, but not as much as I used to. Mostly, I don't want to do the dishes after. I also can't stand for long amounts of time these days so can't stand around cooking. At one point I wanted to go to culinary school and become a chef...but never did it

I love to cook. I use the oven, stovetop, microwave, and crockpot. It's rare when I go out to eat. I need to be careful when I do as fast food and restaurants can pack on the pounds.

@LindaOHio I'm sure it was good. I see I didn't answer all the questions. 1 Where did I learn to cook - School - Home Ec class. Home Ec was okay, but I would rather have taken a different elective. 2 What are my specialties or favorite things to cook - I make a really good sloppy jo. I tried something different a couple of years ago and everyone loved it. So, I have made them that way since. I also make a good pot roast in the crock pot. Tuna casserole, spaghetti, so many things. 3 Do you have a cookbook library - Not like yours, but I have a few. I found a new one on the table in the community room a month or so ago. It has the bread recipe I grew up with in it. 4 What is your favorite method - Crock pot and microwave. I also do a lot of cooking in the oven and stovetop.
