So, did you ever put something in the oven and forget to set the timer? I was sitting here mylotting away, and figured my sweet rolls should be done. I went out to check, and found I had forgotten to set the timer. Good thing I checked when I did. When I opened the oven, they were really pretty brown. I took them out of course, but that is shame. They are a bit crunchy and should have come out 2 minutes sooner. Oh well...what can you do? Has this ever happened to you?

@snowy22315 The next time Gevi is wet, he will stay out until I take out my things from the oven.

Something similar, I put my ingredients into a pot of chicken broth and turned the knob on my burner to high and went back to the PC to do some keypunching. When I went to check on the progress of my soup about 15 minutes later I noticed I hadn't plugged that damn thing in.

I have done that with slow cookers. You expect something to be half done and it isn't even on...

@snowy22315 Isn't it always? No one ever burns the broccoli or Brussel sprouts.

Happens often to hubby when he cooks, even on top of the stove. Our oven tends to run hot, so I turn it down a bit and cook a bit shorter time.

I forgot to set a timer when I was boiling eggs two different times... I heard them exploding and had a big cleanup chore after that.

@snowy22315 Even after I cleaned everything up, we still found pieces of egg in weird parts of the kitchen and it smelled bad for a week even with windows open and the attic fan running.

I almost caught something in a frying pan on fire, so I promised Dale I would never myLot while I'm cooking. Glad your rolls didn't burn.

I have a pretty good sense of when things are supposed to come out, but it isn't foolproof.

I'm a worrywart; so things like that don't normally happen to me. I check and recheck things all the time. Have a good day. I'm sure your rolls were yummy.

I tend to be forgetful, so such a thing happens to me at times.

I am good at remembering to set a timer for any baked goods. I usually just set my phone and put it in my pocket. That way if I go into another room and don't hear the timer, I hear the phone timer. I'm glad they didn't burn to a crisp, Snowy!

I've discovered with my apartment that there is NO WAY I can over cook or burn anything. Even not setting the timer doesn't make a difference. I tried to do some stir fry a couple of nights ago and spent most of the time fanning the smoke detector. One little hint of smoke and it's yelling its freaking head off. I finally had to open all the windows so that there was a constant breeze coming through the apartment. I had constant knocking at my door, neighbors checking to see if I was trying to burn the apartment building down. So much for cooking from scratch, I guess I get to stick to TV dinners. I did do a batch of brownies and managed to beat the smoke detector by a few seconds. I got the brownies out of the oven, turned off the oven and closed it up and then the smoke detector went off. I do sometimes go to heat up my tea water in the microwave and will punch the 2-minute button and then realize that I didn't put the cup of water in the oven...or I'll go to make a cup of coffee and set up everything and forget to add the water to the coffee maker. Since it's just me and the two cats I don't cook much anymore...so I don't worry about setting timers. Although I may use them when I make yeast rolls later next week.
