The Cleveland Browns squeaked a win from the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers, with 8 seconds left, tried a field goal and failed!!! The Browns won by 2 points!
A Georgia man received a $1.4 million speeding ticket for driving 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. A spokesperson for Savannah's city government told the media that the $1.4 million was an automatically generated "placeholder" created by the e-citation software. In other words, the recipient has the option of paying the ticket or appearing in court. Super speeder tickets have a MANDATORY court appearance; and the issuance of a $1.4 million dollar ticket assures the court that the recipient will appear in court. Ultimately the actual fine cannot exceed $1,000 plus state-mandated costs.
During the 2021-22 school year 28% of students were "chronically absent" from school. That equates to missing at least 10% of the 180-day school year or 3-1/2 weeks. The figure is 40% for New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago and 77% for Detroit. Remote learning during the pandemic has given students the feeling that in-person attendance was optional, some school districts have eased grading policies that penalize students for missing class or turning in assignments late and after years of COVID quarantine, some parents are keeping their children home for minor illnesses or mental-health issues. Smartphones and social media increase distractions and weakens a student's connection to school. All of this increases a student's likelihood to drop out of school, which reduces their lifetime earnings and may lead to committing crimes. There are several programs being considered to try and boost students' attendance. In the meantime, student attendance continues to be a major problem in the United States.

I think that % is probably by students who have the unrealistic vision of becoming rich via YouTube that the media has promoted. Our media system has to be checked for stupidity with all the stupid news I see, the real news is almost drowned out by stupid stuff about celebrities and if they do televise about real news they almost always distort the truth. Did Cronkite do that too?

Wow on the speeding ticket! Kinda crazy, cause if they don't want to appear in court they will just pay the 1,000 fine. No need for all the drama.
Those student numbers are high too because of high crime areas. They learn at an early age and don't feel the need for school. Would rather be out stealing something for free.

@LindaOHio But if they know max fine is $1,000 by law, they still may not show. Some just don't care!

The $1.4 million fine is to ensure that the violators appear in court. They are not assessed a fine until the judge declares it in court. Yes, you're right about the students.

@LindaOHio This is a big spot fine for the speedy drivers .. I think he went to court to solve his issue.
In our Country also Traffic Officials put penalties for those who violates the traffic rules.
Have a good day

@LindaOHio — I have a beef allergy that’s not extreme; however, two days in a row of beef can make me sick (as I discovered the last time I got a can of beef stew
).

That's one expensive ticket! Even if it can be up to $1,000...that's crazy expensive.
Tomato penne soup? Is that just tomato soup with noodles? I never thought of adding noodles to tomato soup until you mentioned ramen and tomato soup one time and I love that now.
I had a corndog for dinner, and then fish sticks for 2nd dinner lol (didn't eat my first meal until about 6 PM)
