Have you ever dealt with a real-world "Karen"? Can a police officer have TOO MUCH patience?

Over the past few years, I have heard the term "Karen" used to describe an entitled woman who creates a scene unnecessarily. Yesterday, I went down an odd wormhole and watched some police camera videos of "Karens" who were pulled over by the police. Had you heard the term "Karen" where you live? I find it mildly amusing. If I can find it, I'll attach a video I watched yesterday of a naughty "Karen" who gave the police a hard time while they were trying to be reasonable with her. Had you heard the term "Karen"? What would a male Karen be called? (Nope. Couldn't find the video.)

I have heard the term here in myLot, I think it is discriminating toward all the nice women who were given this name.

@TheHorse We talk about so much of "Politically Correct", we cannot use common terms anymore because "offensive" but we allow to use "Karen", this is ridiculous.

@LadyDuck I think you know how I feel about political correctness. It is a part of why I am a Moderate and not a Liberal. I believe (as of now) that political correctness (on the Left) may be a part of how Donald Trump became "president" of the United States for four years.

Heh. I wonder how they came up with "Karen." One of my nicest girlfriends was a Karen. In name. Not attitude.

Yes, I have head of it and used it for some people. Having worked in the retail industry just after the pandemic believe me, I have seen/heard them firsthand. A male Karen is still a Karen and although not as many of them, they are out there.

Why do some people simply need "drama"?

@Bensen32 Maybe they were ignored as a child. But yeah, they need the attention for some reason.

@TheHorse Man, if I had the answer to that. My guess...They need/want the attention, they believe they are intitled to something, they feel they are better than everyone else. Or simply they were not beat enough as a child so now as adults they still act like a child throwing a temper tantrum when they don't get their way.

Yes, I have heard the term before. I think, looking back, that I have been one more than once in my younger years. A male 'Karen' might be called Heration for Heration Horn Blower. Just my personal opinion.

In this world of 24/7 videos, I wonder if sometimes Karens are intentionally rude.

I've heard the term but didn't really know what it meant. Some people can be real drama queens that's for sure.

@JudyEv Does that mean they did not get enough attention when they were younger?

We've watched some of the Karen videos on YouTube. I don't know what a male Karen would be called. Have a good day.

I have heard the term and it's often used for both males and females. However, females tend to be more likely to fly off the handle than their male counterparts, so most people think it's exclusive to women. And, yes, I've heard people like that in my day-to-day.

It was an odd wormhole yesterday. Many women arrested for shoplifting.

@TheHorse With the economy the way it is and the money not lasting through the month, there will be a lot more people arrested for Shoplifting.

@BearArtistLady More jobs have been created recently but things are still fairly expensive. My hunch is that many shoplifters have had shoplifting as a lifestyle for a longish time.

I just hate it when people use the Karen thing to insult people. I guess because I have a cousin Karen I adore, as well as a friend with the same name. It has also turned the name into a joke. My cousin was asked her name at a meet-and-greet she and her husband went to. She said Karen, and the lady laughed and said, Oh, a KAREN! Might as well call someone a truly terrible name and be done with it. She is a wonderful, kind lady and deserves to be treated nicely.
