I wrote about the Christmas Craft Fair held recently in our club house. It wasn’t only the ladies showing off their wares. This gentleman does the most beautiful woodwork. Many of his pieces featured inlays of different coloured woods. He is holding one of them for Vince to take a photo. Another man’s wife had brought in many of his framed photographs of animals and birds from his native South Africe. Unfortunately, he is now suffering from Alzheimer’s and is in care at the nursing home which is conveniently sited at one end of the village.

I do really enjoy craft fairs or regular fairs where they sell crafts. You never know what they will have. Last time I went to one, I bought a really unique air freshener that looks like multicolored puzzle pieces.

As you say, you can find 'one-off' pieces at places like this. They don't churn out the same thing by the dozen.

Amazing work. I love crafted items. Seeing this photo makes me want to make wood crafts again.

@JudyEv I do too. The smell of wood while working, especially pine and cedar, is amazing. Today, I received my package of cedar closet boards and cedar chips to put in closets, and just kept smelling them over and over. It was so calm and lovely.

My heart goes out to anyone who has a family member suffering from Alzheimer's, I can only hope the gentleman is at least happy no matter what he's forgotten.

It isn't part of our village as such but is very convenient. Village residents who have a partner in the NH can walk there to visit.

@JudyEv That makes it so convenient to visit. Most nursing homes here are built away from homes.

The articles in this section weren't for sale but just to showcase the talents of the people who made them. It was a lovely idea.

I agree with the title. Talent shows when one is 5. He or she will do things when they grow up.

@LadyDuck I liked it when we worked with wood. I loved the smell of sawn timber. We didn't do anything fancy but we made some frames and some small boxes.

@Ronrybs It would look good on a wall but for the first few days I'd be trying to read the time on it. It looks like the surrounds of a clock.

I'm not sure if it has a real purpose but it's bowl-shaped. I guess it would have apples or somesuch maybe. Certainly it's very decorative.
