I have a habit of reading recipes, but then not doing them. Cookie recipes in particular. This morning I have read about Croatian Honey cookies with ginger, which led me to Finnish ginger cookies. Which led me to a recipe for Finnish dark syrup. I like ginger cookies. And ginger snaps. For those that are wondering it looks as if the Finnish cookies have the same spices as Chai, except not the milk. Around here a lot of people make peppernuts, which is a tiny spicy cookie. So in my mind I am engaged in lots of holiday baking. But first, I must eat breakfast.

@GardenGerty Be careful. Time will run out for Thanksgiving and Christmas if you don't start baking now.

Oh, yeah, breakfast... A pecan shortbread cookie will have to do for now.

I always have grand aspirations of taking on cooking and baking recipes, until I actually read the steps and find out how much goes into making some of these elaborate dishes. With my lack of time on most days, I usually end up giving up on those aspirations and just make something simple instead. Although this morning I do have some time, and I am baking some pumpkin bread and a lemon cake as we speak.

I get carried away reading recipes and the photos of some of the dishes are always amazing. But once I get to the nitty-gritty I go back to the same-old, same-old.

@GardenGerty I can understand that. I don't know how you fit as much into your life as you do.

@GardenGerty Any home cooking makes a mess. I wouldn't mind it if I could just cook and bake again!!

Huh I don’t read the recipes until I plan to make them then I read them to find out the ingredients. I have a huge list of recipes to try on Pinterest but I try about 100 new recipes a year.

Maybe Bob and I should keep track of how many we do. He is more likely than I am to make them.

Tell me about those. I may bake over the Christmas holidays. Before that I need to make some muffins or some breakfast bars to have for quick breakfasts as the year gets busier and I do not always prepare well.

I talk about baking cookies but never actually do it. Pretty would tell my doctor if I baked goodies and ate any of them.

I'm not much into baking, but I don't have a sweet tooth. When it comes to recipes in general though, I tend to see them as suggestions rather than instructions and usually do it my way at the end of the day. Granted, baking is a bit more scientific and one wrong step and the whole process is ruined. But when it comes to food, I like to be creative and do it my way more often than not.

Hubs said a chef once told him recipes were suggestions. We often try it the recipe way first and then improvise the next time, etc. Even with baking I do that to some extent.

@GardenGerty Like I always say, before it was a recipe, it was an idea without one.

I might make my mom's side-of-the-bowl molasses cookies this year. I haven't made them in a while, and they're definitely a ginger cookie.
