Have You Ever Been in a Car Accident?

I can thank God that I never have. The only thing that happened to me was that I was driving on a very bad, slushy, s**wy day; and I slid into a guard rail. No damage was done; and that was about 30 or 40 years ago. I've never had a ticket or even a warning. I've been very lucky. My husband, on the other hand, has been in several accidents. He has a tendency to drive too fast and follow too closely. Now that he's older, I've noticed that his concentration is not the best; and he gets easily confused. I get so nervous riding with him. Eventually I will have to do all of the driving; and I dread that because now I'm terrified to drive. I used to drive all over the place, even out of state; but I've only driven a handful of times in the past 10 years or so. How about you? Have you ever had any car accidents? I hope no one was injured if you have. Was it your fault or the other person's fault? Photo Credit: Pixabay

Once. I was on my way to a caregiving job, slowed down for road construction. An SUV driver hit me from behind cause he hadn't been paying attention. I wish you could get rides like the door to door service hubby and I are going to try on Thursday.

I am going to call Medical Mutual about another issue today and am going to ask about the Transportation perk I just found out that we have. What kind of transport do you have? Have a great day. I hope you weren't injured in the accident.

@LindaOHio I got some Physical Therapy out of that car mess. I wasn't that hurt physically. Shook up is all. We're going to try out the bus service tomorrow to see how it goes. The van or whatever it is comes straight to the house and picks us up. $3.00 each way then 30 cents a mile. I don't know if others will be on the van or not. Due to hubby being blind, I will get away with not paying! I will be his helper. Anyway, getting a ride down that rainy freeway will take a huge load off me. I hope you do find a solution that involves somebody else driving.

@sallypup Medical Mutual said that the transportation perk can only be used after a stay in the hospital.

We were in a hit and run once. We weren’t hurt. They never caught the person.

Worst one was as a teenager, passenger in car that my best friend was driving when a drunk driver ran a stop sign and hit us broadside. All four passengers were hospitalized and the driver of the other car was killed upon impact. I had blood clot on the brain, broken nose, lots of cuts, scrapes, holes, and brusies, broken pelvis. Others were minor compared to that. Slick road and raining and my car hydroplaned. I ended up running over a street sign but no damage to my car :)

It's wonderful to hear that you've had a safe driving record over the years, especially in challenging weather conditions! Your husband's experiences sound like a reminder of how important it is to stay safe on the roads, especially as we get older. It must be challenging to deal with his driving habits. Living in Singapore, I've been spoiled by the amazing public transport system here. The buses and trains are so convenient and efficient that I rarely find the need to drive. It takes a lot of the stress out of commuting, allowing me to relax and enjoy my journey without worrying about traffic or accidents.

@LindaOHio I totally understand that. When we visited Chicago, we need to cycle our way to the nearest train station.

We live about 40 miles outside of the city where there are buses, the Rapid Transit and more. We have Laketran out here with a limited area of operation. Unfortunately we have to drive everywhere we have to go. I'm glad you are able to take public transportation. Have a great day.

That's good you haven't, good to hear. Sorry he has though. We had a bad accident about 6 years ago that totaled our car. Nobody was hurt at least, but our car was totally unsavable. The accident was the other person's fault, they were at a stop and they didn't see anybody and pulled out in to cross the intersection.

I've been in several over the years, the last one was in 1996 and boy was it a doozy. You're so lucky you've never been hit or had someone pull out in front of you giving you no way to brake in time.

I was hurt and ended up having upper spine surgery. It wasn't fun but it's been 27 years.

I have been in things that were fender-benders (or other parts of the car benders), but nothing serious ever. Thank God.

Together my hubs and I have not been in any accidents. He was in a really bad wreck a couple of months before our wedding where he was t-boned out in the country after dropping me off at home one night. He was in a small little light truck, they were new back in the 80's when that occurred, and the other driver was behind the wheel of a huge big hunk of Chrysler steel, weighing probably 3 or 4 times what his vehicle did. They were both going 80 km/h. His new truck was a write off and he was hurt quite badly where he was not able to return to work for 6 months. She walked away unscathed. She also did not have a valid driver license, we sued as we were afraid of any harmful side effects that may be long lasting.

@LindaOHio There was all the time a very thick fog in the north of Italy around Milan when I was young. They were on the highway and the fog came down suddenly, people could see nothing.

I've been a passenger in a couple of car wrecks and the driver in one accident but not my fault. I hit black ice and spun across the highway and wiped out a concrete mailbox and totaled my car. When the police came, they hit the black ice and ended up beside me in a yard. They had no damage because I'd already destroyed the mailbox that would have been in their way.
