Then some hair coloring company (I think it was Clairol) used it for commercials as “I’m gonna wash that gray right out of my hair.” With the internet I can investigate all of these things I heard as commercials. So “we’ve got Hi-C” became “we’ve got high hopes.” This is a Rodgers and Hammerstein song from the play South Pacific. This recording is by Mary Martin, who did the role on Broadway. According to Picky Wedia, she suggesting the theme of the song because she always wanted to wash her hair onstage during a play. And for you youngsters, Mary Martin did NOT shoot J.R., but she did give birth to him. Mary Martin was Larry Hagman’s mother.
