Oh, was yesterday wonderful. That’s what friendship is all about, and I pray everyone has a friend like I have with Charles and Ida. I’m making the turn east today, but first I’m gonna give you a song with “gonna” in the title. Hopefully you saw this one coming. I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair - Mary Martin Way before my time, originally. Then some hair coloring company (I think it was Clairol) used it for commercials as “I’m gonna wash that gray right out of my hair.” With the internet I can investigate all of these things I heard as commercials. So “we’ve got Hi-C” became “we’ve got high hopes.” This is a Rodgers and Hammerstein song from the play South Pacific. This recording is by Mary Martin, who did the role on Broadway. According to Picky Wedia, she suggesting the theme of the song because she always wanted to wash her hair onstage during a play. And for you youngsters, Mary Martin did NOT shoot J.R., but she did give birth to him. Mary Martin was Larry Hagman’s mother. I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair Written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II Recorded by Mary Martin From South Pacific, 1949 If you fly on separate beams:

Interesting that that's where such an iconic and famous jingle came from, and that the jingle is more famous and recognizable than the song it came from. lol

@porwest — again, that’s the times. She was incredibly popular in the 40s and 50s.

@FourWalls At the same time, there are many names from that era that I am familiar with. Some slip through, I guess.

I think it was the theme song for divorces before “Goodbye Earl” came along.

Hooray! Not trying to make anyone feel aged, of course, but it’s a great song and play, regardless of how “old” it is!!

At least the commercials educated those of us who didn’t know it with some good songs.
