Fashion Vs Comfort

If it happens that you must venture out in below zero weather what would be your priority -looking good or keeping reasonably warm? Of course both objectives can be achieved l suppose - with the right choices of course. So what do you wear and what would you not wear outdoors in below zero weather.? I remember my first winter in North America many years ago. I ignored advice and on my first trip out in icy weather, l opted to wear a sweater type dress and my coat - big mistake. Pixabay image

@Kandae11 Being that cold hurts. Breathing in the extreme cold is painful. I learned to cover my nose and mouth with a scarf.

It is terrible to be so cold I know what you mean Often when I was young, I also would be fashion wise and not weather wise. These days I am comfort and warmth.

Indeed comfort but I do remember in my younger days I have sacrificed my comfort. I wore those shoes that were so tight all because they looked good on me (lol)

I am looking at this picture and I remember going out in the cold dressed more or less exactly the same, only different colors. Now I wear trousers and a warmer coat, I am no more 30 and not even 40.

We should take care of ourselves even more as we grow older. Yes l do believe you would be fashionably dressed when going out some years ago.

At my age, comfort is my priority for sure. Actually, even when I was younger, I could not wear anything which was not comfortable.

At that temp, hypothermia is a real concern..if you are out in it your only concern really is keeping warm.

I'm sure you felt wonderfully warm wearing that out in the cold. When the temps drop below 50F/10C I get out long pants (versus jean shorts), a real shirt (versus a tank top), real shoes (versus sandals) and a jacket or coat, depending on how cool/cold it is outside..

@Kandae11 It was below zero here this morning. I think it was -1C and I know it was 29F. I have a heavy leather coat I wear when it's really cold outside.

Ha, that was not the kind of outfit l was wearing. I guess you will be wearing much more in below zero weather. Or it doesen't get that cold where you live.

That woman in the photo could fall and break her neck wearing those heels in slippery ice and snow. I learned quickly to wear a good hat that covered my ears and good gloves along with a stout coat and heavy pants when I lived in a colder part of my state.

@Kandae11 I am spoiled now. I used to live in a rural place. I loved it but the winters made me deeply aware how yulnerable I was.

Definitely pants and boots with sensible heels would best in that kind of weather. I wore a jersey dress and coat - l didn't last long outdoors.

Oh yeah!! You'll freeze in that outfit!! For me multiple layers at least five, boots with fur, fleece jacket, and haven't even gotten to what coat to put on yet!! I joke about this all the time!! I don't play with the cold outside!! No more trying to look cute in freezing weather. Wish I could move to Florida in the winter!!

The girl in the picture looks very beautiful. I have never ventured out at below zero. It's not that cold in my city and now I don't go out when it's too cold. I usually wear a saree with a cardigan and cover my head with a shawl when it's winter.

We don't have extreme cold here, so I don't have a big cold weather fashion collection. So the times we did go out to the snow, I wore my limited winter garb and didn't care what I looked like. Oh my goodness - you must've froze!!

Depending on the cold-dry or damp, dictates how I dress. If it is just that cold dry air, we usually get that in January, I will dress in layers as that usually means it is way below freezing. I always wear boots, a scarf, hat and gloves in that cold. When it is damp cold, I wear a wider scarf so that it will also cover my shoulders, to keep the back of my neck and that area warm. And the hats and gloves are always worn also. I have a cold and a sub zero cold winter coat. I would never ever go out in a dress or a skirt during the winter months.

@Kandae11 Yes, things that you can put on before you put your coat on. It helps to keep the warmth close to your body.

I am for keeping warm, layered, and comfortable, I learned to layer when I lived in Latvia because the northern European weather during the winter can be brutal, Now in Florida I don't have to worry about that,
