I was so disappointed with my dinner

I found a steak in the freezer and put it on to simmer for dinner/lunch in case it wasn't tender.
I decided to add some potatoes, celery, and carrots and make it like a roast.
When everything was tender, I made a gravy from the drippings.
The meal had a meat, potatoes, and a veggie, so all I had to do was fry some cornbread.
We found something to watch on TV and I was so hungry.
I ate about three or four bites and just couldn't eat anymore.
I ate pretty good yesterday and saw my Gastro doc in the afternoon. She's scheduled me for some kind of swallow test in a week or so.
She was puzzled why I can eat sweets, but have trouble at times with regular food.
I could gladly eat nothing but sweets, but I know that's not healthy. This is very similar to what happened when I was on chemo several months ago, but my Oncologist said it can't be that now.
But I have good news. I've been cleared to get a date for my foot surgery! I have an appointment coming up to talk to the surgeon.
I think in general we enjoy food and don't think about if we can't. But maybe this will go away as quickly as it started.
Hope all of you are safe and warm.

@1creekgirl Mine was complicated. I threw up before they could actually take the x-rays.
They called it a peptic ulcer, and put me on a special diet for it, but in reality it was the brain tumor.
Every time it grew, I'd get a headache and then throw up and eventually black out.
That diagnosis, although it was incorrect, was about 3 weeks before they found the brain tumor.

Yes, the doc said something about barium. Did they find an ulcer?

It sounds so good it’s a shame you couldn’t properly enjoy it. I am glad to hear you can get your foot surgery, but I just wish (and I know you do too) that you were able to eat normally.
I was talking to my stepmom today, and she was telling me about her goddaughter who has, I can’t remember the official name, but it’s basically paralyzed stomach muscles. I think, and I bet I’m spelling it wrong, it’s gastroparesis. Some days she can eat something like soup and a sandwich with no problem, but most days she cannot keep anything down. It’s either throwing up or the other way, or both. She’s skin and bones now.
I hope the swallow test tells them something for you.

Bless her heart, that must be awful. I read about it on the Mayo Clinic website and it doesn't seem to fit my symptoms. I really think it's from chemo seven months ago, although my Oncologist doesn't think so.
I couldn't eat that pot roast and veggies today, but I just ate a whole banana sandwich with no problem! I can't eat deli turkey unless it's on bread with mayo.

@AmbiePam He's such a good husband. He tries not to let me know he's worried so I won't get as worried, lol, but I ate a little of the roast, potatoes, and carrots today. Yay!

It sounds puzzling.. defintiely sounds like something with your digestion because sweets probably dissolve but other foods require more 'work" to break down. I hope you get some answers.

I think you're on to something. Meats seem to be a bit harder to swallow than other foods. I've learned to take small bites.

It sounds like you had a lot going on yesterday, both good and challenging. I'm glad you were able to put together a delicious meal, even if you weren't able to eat much of it. It's definitely frustrating when you're hungry and your body doesn't cooperate.
It's great that your oncologist ruled out any lingering chemo effects, and that you're finally getting cleared for your foot surgery! That's definitely positive news.
I know it's easy to take food for granted when you're always able to enjoy it, but it's good to be reminded that it's not always the case for everyone. I hope your appetite comes back soon, and that this is just a temporary blip.
Well its bitter here Vicki..freezing to the bone cold.

@1creekgirl It is weird that it returned now that you stopped the chemo. May be a side effect of Covid (or Covid vaccine). I have heard from people who have lost their taste after the Covid vaccine, they are furious.

@1creekgirl But I recall you did say the doc said it's not a side effect. Have they been able to determine at all what's causing it?

But, you seem happy about your upcoming foot surgery. Glad that you're able to have that taken care of.
