A blow for a small town

We used to live in Ravensthorpe, a relatively isolated country town in the south-east of Western Australia. Over the decades, there has been sporadic mining in the area and the town has gone from boom to bust several times over.
For the last few years, it has prospered from a big nickel mine and the workers that are employed there. Now, the company is saying that it is putting off 1,000 workers. While many of these are FIFO workers (fly in, fly out), many others have made their homes there. The mine is only half and hour’s drive to Hopetoun, a very popular beach town. With so many families leaving any town, there is a huge impact on schools and local businesses. I imagine the townsfolk are reeling a bit from this news.
The photo is of the Ravensthorpe Hotel, typical of our West Australian country pubs.

That sounds very discouraging for the entire town.

Those who have lived their whole lives there must be sighing and thinking 'here we go again'.

Such is the state of affairs where a lot of things are under private control.
This is not to say that Government owned enterprises prive great in every place but such job cuts, apart from Financial distress also impacts families - mentally and psychologically.
I hope that the impacted people get alternative livelihood means quickly.
Is the Aussie Government supporting the workers in some way?

Perhaps their Provident Fund money can help but it is often not enough for more than a few months.

I feel for the people of that town, and the shop keepers who will be affected with less people coming through their doors.
My hubby commuted 20 minutes every day to another town for a job.
The year that his company opened so did 5 other companies, and there were alot of people coming and going daily for their jobs in that town, of Tilbury.
Some moved their families to that town, some just commuted as my hubby did, but in the end his was the last of all of those companies to close, and the third in that calendar year.

In my hometown all the major manufacturing plants have shut down over the years. They have done some adapting..but have also lost slot of population.

Things don't stay the same for long, do they? Not where business is concerned.

That's very sad. I am saddened for the people who have to find new jobs.

That is a lot of workers with no jobs, Bad situation since it will probably be difficult for these people to find jobs unless they move elsewhere,

Many people will probably have to move. That's sad.
