Two strikes I'm out?

This has been a weird day Breakfast was okay: fried egg, one piece of bacon, and a leftover potato cake. But dinner was a disaster! We had two steaks in the freezer, so Dale cooked them on the grill. They had probably been in the freezer too long because they were tough as shoe leather. The baked beans baked too long and were too dry to even eat. The baked sweet potatoes were awful and I have no idea why. I still have issues off and on with nothing tasting right, but even Dale said nothing was good. Fast forward to later this evening. I cooked two hamburgers and they were terrible! Probably freezer burn. We ate some chips and two cookies and called it a night. I mixed up some cookie dough to bake tomorrow, but wondering if I should even try it. This might be a way to lose weight, but I don't like it at all!

I think you and Dale should call it quits (cooking wise) and go out tonight and treat yourself to some Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn Steakhouse!

@1creekgirl You have my vote as well. And if necessary, I will join you in person at the steakhouse so that Dale can physically count my vote.

I've had that happen to me when something is in the freezer too long and I think it's okay to cook. At least you know that it wasn't just you if Dale said it wasn't good. Hope the cookie baking goes well

I baked the cookies today. Not the greatest, but I did read that the cake mix expired in December, so that might be a factor. I wouldn't have used it, but I already had the other ingredients mixed. It was a gluten free cake mix, so it was probably out of date because no one was buying that kind.

What a shame when you have to waste food because the freezer spoiled it!

@1creekgirl - It happens, sometimes we do not feel well enough to cook and things stay in the freezer too long. I am making a list of everything inside our freezer today.

It's my own fault, though for not cooking it sooner.

That's such a shame. I hope things improve soon. We have disasters from time to time and often have no idea why.

I don't understand this, honestly. I know sometimes food still doesn't taste right to me, but this is crazy.

Most of the time for me it is simply that I have bad luck, I sometimes forget, and get a reminder. lol

I had just said recently that my regular food I've been cooking since last year with cancer is pretty good, but desserts are still a challenge.

Cereal was good at breakfast, lol. But dinner wasn't too great. It's mostly my taste buds, but Dale didn't say much about it.

@LindaOHio Some people get past side effects soon after treatment, but some have them for a year or more.

@1creekgirl Do the doctors say how long the effects of chemo will last? Or is it different from person to person?

I hate when good food has been damaged in some way. Freezer burn is the main way I experience it.

I wonder why you are having so much trouble in the cooking and baking department lately? Maybe it is time to start getting more prepared foods. They may cost more, but at least you know they will be good!

That's probably good advice. I know some things still taste strange to me at times, but sometimes Dale agrees and sometimes it tastes good to him.

Dinner was actually good today. We had chicken thighs on the grill, baked potatoes and fried green beans.

Sounds like a great crash diet, I am on my way to one too. Still have to wait until I can order groceries on February 10 and in the meantime I am down to instant soups. However, once you've had one you've had enough. I might try a soup a day until the big grocery day,

Yeah, they can get freezer burned. I think they're still safe to eat, but won't taste as good.

One thing I have found over the years—shoe leather is never good on my plate. Sorry to hear this turned out so badly. Plus, steak isn't cheap, so that would have been a double disappointment. lol

We bought it on sale a while back. I hate to lose food like that. We had marinated chicken thighs on the grill, baked potatoes and fried green beans. It actually tasted good to both of us.

@1creekgirl Hopefully you were able to repurpose the steaks. Something like that would be stewed, used in a soup or something else.
