5 February - What I'm Thankful for Today

Good evening from Green Bay, Wisconsin. My computer says it's 31 F. A mite chilly. I didn't watch the weather at all today, so I don't know what it's supposed to be like today. I also didn't go outside, so I don't have first hand knowledge of what it feels like either. Today has been a different day for me. I could almost call it depressing. It took until a short while ago to figure out why I was depressed. So, I'll tell you why being depressed is something to be thankful about. I'm thankful for the book I'm working on Wilderness Cry. The situation begins at the beginning of the book and is a good cause for the main character to be depressed. Usually when that happens with my writing, I have the same feelings and emotions as my characters. So, it wasn't anything I'm experiencing personally. I'm not depressed over anything in my life, but it is my book that is causing the emotional drain. Once I figured that out, I became my normal happy self again and can move forward with my day, or evening as the case might be. I'm thankful for the eight plus hours of sleep I got last night. To open my eyes to find it almost five a.m. is unheard of for me. I'm always up long before then. However, it's been a good day. I managed to get everything I needed to do done in a timely manner. I'm thankful for the time I spent here with you. I always enjoy seeing what you're doing in your part of the world. I finished the notifications three times today. I'm thankful I kept my calories down today without compromising on food. I had fish, not salmon but a lower calorie fish with rice for lunch today. So, we'll see what the scale says tomorrow. Okay, that's my day. It's been good. I made headway with the new book and that's always a good thing. What are you thankful for today? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me. Pictures from the last storm. There's almost no snow on the ground now.

Isn't it a funny world sometimes? Your temperature is 31F and ours is 31C.

I am thankful I was finally able to pick up a prescription today, that was supposed to have been available to me last Wednesday. This really caused me problems, but I’m thankful I didn’t let it get me down. I’m also thankful I got a few packages today I didn’t expect.

I'm glad you got your prescription. I'm sure it caused problems being a week late. I'm glad you got unexpected packages.

I'm glad there's nothing going on in your personal life to make you depressed. I'm thankful things went pretty well while George and I were out today. Getting rides is a pain, but it kind of reminded George why he wants to drive again. I'm glad George got that nap after we got home. I know I'm not going to get four peg tube feedings in today, and I wasn't going to try (unless he's up until midnight), but one day isn't going to matter. The person we spoke to, who supplies me with his formula and stuff, understood that it was slow-going until I could get those four feedings in. It's just as important that he sleeps if he can.

Thank you. I'm glad things went well, and sorry you couldn't get the four feedings done. I'm glad they understand it won't always happen.

@just4him No. I didn't think they would have a problem. She even told me doing tube feeds is a bit of a learning curve. George and I have it down now, but life does happen.

It is 46 here and it is raining real hard. My husband does not like crowds so he took me out to a Valentine day lunch at Apple bees. I love their riblets they are so good. Next week I will talk him into a Valentine dinner at Sizzlers.

When I do not cook salmon, the white fish we both like is halibut. It is a low-calorie but nutrient-dense fish.

@just4him Halibut is a very good fish, I do not buy catfish because I dislike the taste, when available I like rainbow trout.

@LadyDuck I like rainbow trout. I had that mostly when I was growing up. My dad was a fisherman and caught many trout and other fish.

I haven't seen halibut unless I wasn't looking for it. But I look at all the fish and prices when I buy and don't recall seeing it. I'm glad it's low calorie.

I can understand how your emotions would be in sync with the characters you're working on. It's good though, that you can leave it when you move on to something else and the depression doesn't follow you through the day. I know you must be disappointed that your snow has melted. Ours is long gone

@just4him then it translates to the reader and that's what makes a book a great book. Hopefully you'll see more snow before the winter ends. Usually I wouldn't wish snow on anyone but I know how much you love it so I don't feel bad saying it.

It takes me for a loop every time it happens. It is good because I am in tune with my characters. Yes, I'm disappointed. I'm glad it's not completely gone. I can still see some when I look out my patio door.

@Marilynda1225 Thank you. You're so sweet to wish me more snow. I agree. I get very emotional when I read my work. Even laughing when it's funny. Sometimes it's hard not to laugh.

I think you—as the writer—experience the same thing I do as a reader…I get so emotionally involved in the story that I feel like I become part of the story. And I’m one of those people who, when I sit down to read a book, will read it from cover to cover. So, upon conclusion, I sometimes forget which reality is the real reality—the story in the book, or my actual real life. To me, that’s the sign of an amazing story.

@just4him I totally agree. You know it’s an incredible story when the writer gets sucked into that world too.

It's also the sign of a good writer when the writer and the reader can get emotionally caught up in the book, they lose sight of reality.

I am glad there is nothing going on in your life that was causing you to be depressed. Today I am thankful for the two small walks I got in. It was such a pretty day. And watching some more of the Perry Mason movies on YouTube.

I'm thankful that the sun is out today, that I will probably e-file the taxes today, that I lost 14 pounds AND that maybe they are thinking about releasing my husband from the hospital. I hope so. Have a good day.

Well glad to hear that it was nothing about your life that was depressing...and that once you figured out what was going on things got better. I can understand feeling the emotions, and such of your characters in your books. That's good to be able to do that....I think Maybe I am wrong.
