What is your go to?

I have some stomach issues today. I want to be careful what I eat. Do you have any go-to foods you eat to make you well? Or at least feel better? I did not know this was my problem for breakfast, so had two eggs and two whole wheat rolls, and coffee. Now I am trying to take better care since the symptoms are showing their ugliness. I ate a banana. Later, I finished the last of our gingerale. I have had a can of chicken noodle soup, and I think I need at least one more nap. My daughter makes ginger tea and freezes it as ice cubes. That seems to help her family get over things quickly. Some people eat dill pickles or saltines to settle their stomach. Others have tea with lemon and honey. You just have to do what works for you.

These all sound good recipes although the pickles and sardines were a bit of a surprise. I hope you're okay again by now.

I agree. The pickles sounds like too much acid, and the sardines, like other foods, sounds too heavy. Needs to be light foods when you are sick.

Rice is very settling. Not sure what curd is, but I would think it is somewhat like plain yogurt.

@aninditasen Yes, I have some here at home. Home made, so even better.

@GardenGerty Yes, it is creamy yogurt which lubricates the gut and kills the bacteria in the gut.

I'm sorry you don't feel well. I can relate to stomach issues. I like a cup of spiced tea when I feel sick.

That really does help. I feel very "off" as in I do not want to fix anything, so tea is handy.

When I have an upset stomach and have it on hand, I eat a small bowl of ice cream. When I don't have it on hand, nothing works. I sleep on my stomach. That always works. Unless I really need to relieve my stomach of its contents.

Ice cream tends to give me heartburn and reflux. I can see where it would be soothing though and coat your stomach.

Knock on wood. Because of the meds I take, my stomach is usually OK. I get discomfort from the IBS-C; but there's nothing I can do about it. I never change my diet. I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Chicken soup and tea are always good. Hope you feel better soon.

@GardenGerty dark chocolate is good for diarrhea recovery too, at least in my and my friends' experience.

Rice is good jello etc. Probably anything from the BRAT diet we used to give our kids when they were little and had a tummy ache.

There is a diet I read about eons ago that is good for when you are having tummy issues. The BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.

Yes, some add one extra T for tea. Bananas and applesauce both help replenish electrolytes.

It depends on the ailment. For stomachaches, I aim for ginger items (that's supposed to help with nausea too) - your daughter's ginger tea sounds good. I like greens too (I think of animals that do that). I stay away from spicy and too acidic stuff.

The thought of spicy turns my stomach right now. Hubby offered to fix tamales and I told him "no way"!!

@GardenGerty Hope your stomach is feeling better by now. Yah, spiciness can be hard to take as it is . . . best to stay away from it til you're feeling good.

I ry to stick to quick fixable easy diagestable foods that are soft. I can't neglect my health, obviously, but I also can't make it worse.

You absolutely must take care of yourself. I seldom get sick, so of course this hit when I was headed to ER with Bob.

@GardenGerty I do take care of myself, don't worry about that. I can't take care of George, if I neglect my own health.

Brothy soup and white soda. Or I just suffer it out, especially if I happen to be in a position where nothing will stay down.

We keep ginger ale on hand. When I was a kid it was 7 up. Not Sprite. Mom said it had too much sugar.

@GardenGerty I always liked Sprite better. But it DOES have a lot of sugar. When we made it, we'd get cotton candy in the ceiling's corners of the can filler and bottle filler rooms from all the sugar in the air. lol

My mom had one surefire method of course when I was no longer a child. She used it for me and herself and I have to say it sure worked. A pinch of ground black pepper topped with vodka in a shot glass and down the hatch,

For me it was always pastina pasta, milk, and a pat of butter. Ronzoni discontinued pastina and I haven't found a good replacement yet.

I will have to look that up as I am not familiar. Butter would coat an irritated gut, for sure.

Man I hate it when I get a upset stomach, I either wait it out or depending on how bad I feel, I'll go to the hospital.

I have never been to the hospital. The thing is you have to take something in to maintain a decent blood sugar, or you will crash.
