3/13/24 - Update on My Husband

Oh. My. Goodness. Took me 2 days; but I managed to find my husband. There was no answer at his phone at Cleveland Clinic; so I called the rehab facility. They rang and rang his phone...no answer. The next day I called the rehab facility again and they told me that he wasn't there and he hadn't been there since February 22. He was still in the hospital.
So I called the general Cleveland Clinic number and found out that he had been transferred to another floor. He's now in Surgical ICU and has an infection in his arm (probably from all the IVs) and his blood pressure is too low. I have NO IDEA if and when they will transfer him to rehab.
His cousin says she needs to get ready for her son's birthday party; so I don't know if we will be going to see my husband on Friday or not. I'm so confused.

Linda, you can call the ICU and ask that his doctor call you and update you on your husband's condition, since you cannot be there. They will do that. They can flag his chart, or leave a message for the doctor to contact you. You will feel better to be updated.
I bet when they moved they put his cell phone in with his belongings and it's not charged, or he cannot reach it. Maybe when you call you can ask if someone will go look for it and charge it for him? You will feel better if you talk to the doctor and get your husband his phone and talk to him, too. I do hope you can talk to your husband today.

He doesn't have his cell phone. He wants me to bring it. I was able to talk with him yesterday.

@MarieCoyle I spoke with him twice yesterday. He has to call me. The ringer on his phone doesn't work.

Glad you were finally able to trackhim down. That must have been so frustrating for you and worrisome not knowing where he was and what was going on. I hope he starts to feel soon. He has been through so much. Continued prayers.

Well at least you tracked him down. They should really let the family know when they are transferring someone from unit to unit like that.

That is so sad that there is no communication.
Not from the hospital, not from the operator who answered the phone at the rehab place, no communication.
I hope that you can establish the fact that you need to be kept up to date on his condition and status and where he is.

The swelling is down on his arm and his blood pressure supposedly is stable.

DAMN, sounds like the same thing my husband went through with me
they had him going all over the place & knowing it was a long ways
from home they had him running all over the place to keep up with me.

They keep moving him around in the hospital. Hubby doesn't always have a phone to call me.

@kareng Nope. One of their vehicles needs a battery. She can't take me. I don't know when she will be able to take me again.

What a bummer! It's such a shame you can't find other transportation so you can see your husband more often. Isn't there any hospital shuttle or anything?

In a way, with a bowel blockage I’m glad he’s still in the hospital. James Spann (the weather guy I watch in Alabama) had one of those earlier this year, and he went from hosting Weather Brains to surgery in three hours. Hubby is right where he needs to be until they get that bowel thing taken care of!!!! (I know that’s not what you want to hear, you want him in the sun room with you.)

The blockage is taken care of, the swelling is down in his arm and supposedly his blood pressure is stable.

I'm sorry you are dealing with so much confusion. I will make sure to keep praying for you and your husband. It's a little concerning to me that they move your husband around and don't provide you with any communication on what is going on. They should keep you posted on everything they do regarding your husband.

@LindaOHio I know, and it’s such a shame. I think transparency and communication should be cornerstones to patient care. I went through similar experiences with my mom, never knowing where she would be or what condition she would be in until we showed up at the hospital. It was frustrating, to say the least, and I wish it was something you or I didn’t have to experience or worry about.
All things considered, how are you holding up? I pray not only for your husband, but also for the Lord to give you strength and peace and comfort.

@moffittjc Thank you so much for your concern. I am hanging in there. Our housekeeper (hubby's 2nd cousin) is coming today to work on my huge to-do list. It's so hard not having my husband here to help me. You are a good friend Jeff! Have a great weekend.
