Not good news for my grand daughter and cheerleading

She just called me from the hospital. She broke the bone in her hand that connects to her ring finger. They put a cast on it but once the swelling goes down they will recast it and she will have the cast for 6 weeks. So that will be it for her trip to Montreal and the competition she was most looking forward to. She worked so hard to get there and now she won't be able to go. She is so heartbroken and so upset and it upsets me to know that she is hurting and there is nothing I can do to make her feel better. There is not much anybody can do. It is all apart of the sport and those things happen but it doesn't make it easier. It make it worse it is her right hand and she is right handed so that makes everything difficult. Hoping it heals well. I am in tears writing this. We were hoping for better news. Not a good to start to a new week.

OH NO! I am so sorry. Be sure that she can move her fingers, I broke my right elbow when I was 6 and it was hard using the left hand until it was fixed.

@Happy2BeMe When I broke my elbow I learned to write using my left hand. I was 6 years old and I had to wear the cast during 8 weeks.

When they were doing a stunt. The girl who was the flyer fell on her hand and it pushed her finger right back and the bone snapped.

I´m so sorry! She is surely in a great physical pain but the worst is not being able to have her dream come true.

That is what bothers me the most too. She was so looking forward to this trip and competing with teams all over the country.

@Happy2BeMe I’ve been busy looking after my husband. Long, long story. His health is not good and we have been to Saint John several times since last April. Hopefully in a week or two they can insert mitral clips which might improve his quality of life.

@Morleyhunt I am so sorry to hear that. Praying they can insert the mitral clips so that things can improve for him. That is quite a little drive for you travelling back and forth. It is a good hospital. I hope they are taking good care of him.

@Happy2BeMe It’s hard when someone works for so long toward. Big goal, and then through no fault of their own, it all crumbles.

She and you should be thankful that she's alive. Children need to learn how to deal with disappoitment, too. She might get another chance. Perhaps, she can save up and make the trip on her own someday.

@Happy2BeMe Yes, I understand. And, She'll bounce back. Most kids do. She'll be upset for a while, that's normal. But, she'll be okay. Six weeks sucks (that's how long my leg was in a cast,) but she has a good chance of using that hand again after it heals. Sometimes finding the bright spots helps children move through the disappoitment.

@kaylachan Thanks. She is a good kid she won't let anything hold her down for too long. It will take a bit adjusting to her. She just found out earlier this year that she has Scoliosis and even though it was a shock to her and all of us she didn't let it stop her from doing the things she loves.

Of course we are thankful she is alive that wasn't even the point of my discussion. It is the competition she was looking forward to and she has every right to be disappointed. We all get disappointed from time to time. We are all human after all and children or adults we learn to deal with what happens but our initial reaction is to be upset when it is something we were really looking forward to.

That is such hard news to take, especially at the very end of the season when they were doing so well. Would the school let her go along for morale support and to help out in any other ways?

I am hoping that will be the case because she has it all paid for and had to raise money for the trip. It is not a school team. It is a city team so I am not sure how it will work. It is a six day trip.

Sorry to hear this, That always makes it worse when you work hard and then cannot finish up on something, I will put her in my prayers for a quick recovery. You can help by sending her funny cards and little gifts she might appreciate to show your support and best wishes for her.
