My last grocery list was not my fault.

I needed some groceries until a little devil (@Mariecoyle) started to suggest food to celebrate my daughter´s call.
And unfortunatly, I quickly accept all the luxury foods.
Marie suggested my favorite chocolate cake. It will be here in less than 2 hours and I will eat it with my second cup of coffee.
But as I made de list I discovered that I needed sweet and salty food. So I ordered, salami, caramelized ham, Camembert cheese, avocados, a couple of artichokes and a kilo of fresh mussels that will be my lunch today.
I´ll steam the mussels and while they open I will prepare a mayo. The mussels were very inexpensive and I´ll save the liquid to make a sea food risotto.
As usual, I forgot to buy a couple of things. So I´ll start a new list right now. But I won´t buy a thing until next month. I can do without them.
See you later. I´m now waiting for the groceries. I will not have time to shower but my best bathrobe is dry. Juanita washed a load of clothes yesterday and in spite of the gray day, the wind dried everything.

So, it’s alll my fault. I will gladly accept the blame for suggesting you celebrate Claudia’s call!! I know how that call lifted your spirits.

We got avocadoes too. They are ripening in the kitchen window. I want some asparagus. I like it stir-fried with yellow or white onions. So delicious. Have to have shrimp with that.

@marguicha .........I won't get any either at that price. My ex and I used to go out and pick our own by the bag full. We knew just when to go out and knew places where there would be patches of it growing along ditch banks and such. It was fun and then we had asparagus for the entire summer and to give to friends and family. I sure miss that.

@celticeagle Many decades ago I palnted asparagus in one of my houses. I did not have too many plants but enough for my husband an for me. The kids did not like it then.

I decided not to buy asparagus. They are very expensive now. Just a tiny handful is over a dollar.

I love mussels. And I was thinking about steaming them while I put away the rest of the groceries and then eating them straight from the pot.

I did not buy everything but still I have enough food to eat very wellfor at least a month.

@MarieCoyle I like to cook and I can prepare a well balanced meal with a bit of this and a bit of that. But I, too, like to have all I need in my pantry and fridge. And lately, I´m not eating too much. So I can buy the best meat and eat less than before for instance.

Treats are just necessary once in a while. They boost the spirit and make us smile.
With the constantly rising prices of groceries, it can be a challenge to eat healthy and well some of the time. I keep a basic stocked pantry and I always have--I hate to try to fix a meal and be missing one ingredient, so I am good on the basics. Everything costs more now for all of us, doesn't it? I tell my son that we may not have what we want, but we have what we need, and I feel fortunate to have that.
I am very glad you buy and cook good food for yourself, Marga.

I was looking forward to coming home to a cup of coffee. Then after our meeting I discovered that only one slice of the cake I brought was consumed. Then I thought maybe a slice of cake and coffee but I was really full and skipped that temptation. I'll have that for break
fast in the morning since hubby will be taking his friend to doctor for procedure.

@marguicha I am the same way. I brought a bag of junk food for my drive to my daughters and ate a large bag of cheese puffs on the way and way back...the whole bag!! I also downed a box of Milk Duds.

I have been putting away groceries and cleaning up all day. While I did it, I munched some salami slices. After my nap I finished cleaning up the kitchen and felt I needed a piece of cake. So I just ate my first piece and have a cup of coffee at my side.

The only important thing they did not have was leeks. I was looking forward to a spinach and leek creamy soup.
