A food win

I tried out an idea that I found on the Web. I'm working into not eating meat. And eating fewer interesting ingredients- another good for me goal. Tonight I made potato chowder. I diced onion, green pepper and celery in with the potatoes. I did this to thicken the soup: I used a mixture of ground raw sunflower seeds and raw oats-oatmeal. It thickened the chowder nicely. It did NOT taste like oatmeal. It made the soup creamy without adding cheese or cream. At this point I don't need the extra fat in those dairy products. This morning- this is a backwards post- hubby brought the pan of peanut butter cookies that he made yesterday to church. Fine. The not so good news for me: he brought some home. I ate a couple. Not the end of the world. I am trying hard to stop eating so much sugar, He knows this so this irritated me. Mostly its been a good Sunday. I hope the same for you.

Your chowder sounds good and it's always great when a recipe comes out good. I'm trying to limit my sweets too and it's hard. I can understand how those peanut butter cookies would be tempting.

You only had a couple of cookies, sounds like a good amount of self-control to me. Sorry your husband didn't take your struggle against sugar seriously though. At least they're peanut butter cookies, sugary but PB is not as bad as chocolate.

@sallypup Seems good! I don't mind using oil instead of butter when making cookies, the process is also faster as you don't have to wait for the dough to cool down. But you gotta add some fat somewhere either way.

@jstory07 Sounds good. I'm eating more fresh food so I can't see how my house could go for a couple of months without shopping.

I've been cutting down the sugar in recipes. Vince is Type 2 diabetic so it's best if he doesn't have too much sugar.

A couple of OB cookies isn't the end of the world. He likely wasn't trying to sabotage you

That’s good news. We have cut way back on red meat cooking, processed food, etc. We eat fresh vegetables and fruits, so never have a need for sweets - unless we have guests over for dinner.

It's hard to forego sugar and go vegan all at once. Take baby steps. Good luck.
