How is a Person Supposed to Get the Right Amount of Veggies When They Can't Stand Veggies?

I don't like many vegetables. But we are supposed to have 5 portions each day. I love potatoes and will eat Brussels sprouts, broccoli and spinach. Sweet potatoes and squash are disgusting. I can't eat sweet corn anymore and who wants canned corn? Broccoli is boring( so are green beans) and Brussels sprouts usually eat like a ball of rubber so I don't eat many of them. I don't care for tomatoes or ketchup. Can get a decent avocado. Artichokes my kids won't eat and my daughter doesn't know how to fix them anyway. So what's left? Spinach! I love spinach, beet greens, and Lamb's Quarter but now I am hearing that spinach has too many oxalates in it. Never heard of those before. So, now what do I eat to get my veggies? Celery and cucumbers too I guess. Oh, and I do drink V-8 from time to time.

That's good that you enjoy them. I know I should try more but I just can't get interested in them.

@celticeagle Have you tried eating in one of those Korean grill restaurants, in which we call here a "Samgyupsal"? My partner ended up eating vegetables when we went to eat dinner in one of those places. She now enjoys wrapping some of her meat with lettuce and kimchi.

Stop stressing over it? What we're supposed to "have" changes all the time. What you get from vegies, you can get other places. A little research goes a long way.

Uh oh. I'm surprised your system isn't 'stopped up.' Can you put some salsa on your vegies to make them tastier I only really like garden fresh tomatoes. Cauliflower is left. Green beans. Cucumbers. I put salsa on my yam. I'm eating cooked snap peas right now.

I just eat what I can handle and take multiple vitamins daily. I can't stand yams, sweet potatoes or squash. The consistency makes me gag. You are doing well.

Vegetables can be delicious. I’ve always loved most vegetables and they are part of our daily diet here. My children and grandchildren love them as well.
Get online and do some research on different ways to fix them. We eat way less meat and more vegetables than we ever used to, and we’ve always eaten vegetables. Do some experimenting!

It is good that you like many of them. I have done my research. We just don't fix them much. If I had a garden I think I could handle them much better.

@MarieCoyle .......I think that's one reason I don't eat them now. My grandmother used to make me eat squash and it made me gag.

I have been on various sites and such off and on for years. Until I came to mylot, I never realized how many people don't like vegetables. They have always just been a staple for us, both of my grandmothers expressed to my sister and I that we had to eat them, and we learned to love them because it made them happy, I think. But their plan worked.

I have an online friend who dehydrates veggies, grinds them into powders and adds them to food for her family and pets. They never know that the veggies are there.Any fruit you eat counts too.

I love most veggies but never have enough around, Usually, I keep some cans of diced tomatoes, spinach, and sauerkraut on hand, I love beets but have not had any in a while, I cannot find decent avocado usually if I buy them they deliver them hard as rocks, I have some cucumbers at home, You reminded me that I should order V8 next month I used to drink that a lot it is good,

I enjoyed many when we had a garden. Buying them in the store they aren't nearly as good and so I'm not apt to pay money for them. Avocadoes seem to be a lost cause anymore. Especially when we have someone else picking them for us. V-8 is nice cold to go with my lunch.

I think it would be difficult even for someone who likes a lot of vegetables to get five servings each day. My multiple vitamins will have to do.

V-8 is a good partial solution. I love veggies except for beets. I will eat asparagus; but I don't care for it much. We usually get 2 servings of veggies with our Meals on Wheels lunches and one serving of fruit. Have a good day.

I'm sorry to hear you a digestive problem. Many veggies aren't tasty at all.
