7/10/24 - Update On My Husband - Part 2

I don't know how I could have forgotten to tell you...Some people from the State or County came to the facility and were asking all the residents how their treatment was. My husband complained about the food and the time that it takes for the nurses and aides to answer the call lights. If enough people complain, maybe something will be done. My husband should be home by then though. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I'm glad they talked to the patients and your husband told them about the lack of attention from the staff.

We complained often about the time taken to answer the bell but it never made any difference. I hope that's not the case for your husband.

@LindaOHio Oh goodness! Mum never had to wait that long. Someone could be in a lot of trouble after 3 hours.

I hope that they reach out to the next of kin and compare stories, that would only be fair in order for them to implement the changes that are needed.

I hope that the feedback from the residents doesn't fall on deaf ears. Yes, hopefully your hubby will be home by the time something is done but sad that it takes a whole lot of complaints for something to hopefully get changed.

@Marilynda1225 I think the State was generous with their rating!

I believe those facilities work short handed, most of the time. That call light is a safety feature, it should be immediately answered. One lady told my father, "Just pee in your bed, I will change it in the morning."

The question is, what will they do with the concerns they are told about? Sometimes it's just a matter of doing the paperwork, you know. It doesn't always mean any action will be taken. Then they can say, if something ever happens, "Yeah. We looked into it."

I do not know how it is in your state, but yearly, at random times, the state comes in and inspects and observes care facilities. In the public area, and online there are usually copies of the most recent state assessments for people to look at if they are considering having a loved one there. I think it is about time someone was checking up on this facility.

What can happen, and (hopefully he'll be home before then) is the place could be shut down. I hope that this takes forever, and that doesn't happen while your husband is there.

Hooray! Unfortunately, what usually happens is they “shape up” for a couple of weeks to get their rating brought up, then they quickly slide back into their bad habits. Still, it’s good that they’re being complained about…and even better that someone’s actually LISTENING to the complaints.
