Wifey and I rarely go out, so last night was the exception with the only aside being we went out last week as well when we met up with my sister and brother-in-law at a local bar and restaurant called Charlie's Place.
I told her it won't be an every week thing, but maybe getting out every once in a while will be a nice change of pace.
Last night we decided to hit up our favorite Mexican restaurant in the downtown area where we live called Margarita's. I had a combo plate, which is per my usual, and she had a taco salad, and for drinks she got a strawberry margarita and I got my traditional Sol with a lime in it.
Yummy stuff. And it didn't set us back too badly. $63 with tip.

@2ndchances24 The stock market paid for it. You don't think I'd actually spend money out of pocket do you?

We don't go out much anymore. Used to go every week. But way back the place we went to started raising prices.

@porwest We went out most Saturdays even after getting married until she started charging more. It wasn't as much the price as the game. She had a steak with sauteed mushrooms, onions and sweet peppers. First she started charging extra for the onion. Then charging extra for the others. Just raise the price. Don't play mind games

@wolfgirl569 I can't stand "hidden fees and charges." You're right. Just tell me what the price is and if it has to be more, fine. But if it's more than I thought it was going to be because you said one thing and charged another? That's when you lose my interest, and thus, my business.

@porwest Thanks. Plus I don't like shrimp; and they have tons of shrimp on the menu. They should call themselves Red Shrimp. They need crab cakes (which they discontinued), clam strips (which they discontinued), etc. and more lobster.

@LindaOHio They discontinued crab cakes? That was always a staple on their menu. I have not been to a Red Lobster in ages.

it's always nice to go out with your spouse - as long as you can afford it

@Dreamerby It's complicated. Part of it is that restaurants run on VERY low margins. Usually around 2%. So, if they paid more to the waiters and waitresses, the food would be so expensive no one could afford to eat there. So, they are allowed to pay the waitstaff less and it is made up for in tips, and actually, once tips are accounted for, MOST waitstaff end up making WAY more than the minimum wage. It is not unheard of for waiters and waitresses to actually make up to $20 an hour.

@porwest But that's not a good system. The restaurant is solely responsible for paying the waiters because they hired them. Why should customers be 'forced' to pay tips to the waiters?

It didn't set you back to bad ? ARE YOU KIDDING ?
I have & WOULD NEVER go to a place that cost that kind of
$ not even if it was a family get together, I'd stay at home &
make it a family night out in the back yard it's a lot cheaper.

@2ndchances24 I agree with you mostly. But you have to live too. I have made a nice bit of money for us over the years. What's the point if we can't enjoy some of it? Our reward was buying the camper, enjying some camping trips through the summer, enjoying a little bit of gambling, and the occasional night out. It doesn't break us, so why not?
We scrimp on so many things. It's nice to breathe every once in a while and enjoy what we have worked so hard to achieve.

@porwest I'd rather starve or eat at home B-4 I pay that kind of $
it's a H3LL of a lot cheaper to buy the foods you can cook at home
& stop supporting high rate places to drop their prices.

With a name like Charlie's Place, you can't go wrong. Kind of like All in the Family's "Archie's Place" a bar venture Archie Bunker bought and ran.
Maybe in time we can afford more dining out experiences now that there's going to be a new president in town.
Margaritta's are yummy!
