The photo has little to do with the post but shows our friend’s car posed against a tree when we created a humorous calendar for her featuring her beloved car in all sorts of compromising positions.
Western Australia has had a number of young drivers killed and injured lately because of car accidents. These are often caused by excessive speed. I’m sure it’s a common tragedy everywhere. There is a much higher incidence of young people killed or injured compared to other age groups. Inexperience and over-confidence are often factors in crashes in this age group.
In Australia, red P plates are issued to newly licensed drivers for their first six months of driving. They then go on to green P plates. The ‘plate’ is a clearly visible card which must be displayed on the vehicle. However, our state has now brought in new regulations and red P Platers will only be allowed to drive with one other passenger in the vehicle. There are exceptions as regards immediate family members or driving for employment purposes.
Let’s hope these measures help reduce the number of young people affected by car accidents.

Here in my city, I didn't notice that the young drivers caused a lot of accidents. Most accidents involved the pretty old age drivers.

I think many youngsters carried away by the pickup and power of new Cars.
Here, I have seen some folks driving SUVs and some spoilt rich brats with BMW, Merc etc. going berserk.
Of course, the traffic situation & driving culture here is much worse than that of Australia so yes, I can understand how bad the situation becomes with more road accidents.
Road awareness campaigns become important but often many people do not learn.

Some of the older cars like Ambassador in India were tougher to drive. No power steering and even gears were heavier.
Yet I have heard that they were sturdier than most vehicles today barring the SUVs.

Most vehicles, even SUVs are of similar stuff.
That is why, recent rulings have asked for mandatory airbags.
Yet road conditions and safety are worrisome here.

@wolfgirl569 For sure. Immediate familly members are okay if one has had a licence for four years or more. I think they're aiming at a young driver with 3 or 4 young passengers, all egging on each other or generally causing a distraction.

Being careful on the roads doesn’t seem to matter anymore to people of all ages. They fly by and crash and then wonder why.

This happened again the other day to me--speed limit in a construction zone on the interstate--45mph. I was behind a semi, and couldn't go over 40 as that was what the semi was doing, and it's a huge construction zone. Car zoomed around me going so fast, all I saw was a red blur! I drove on for about 15 minutes, and came to a standstill. Crazy driver of the red blur car hit a guardrail, and really tore up his car. There was already a police officer there. Extreme stupidity, and it could have ended a lot worse for him.

in Bosnia we also have "P" that stands for pocetnk (beginner) sign that's supposed to be taped on the back of the car and it has to be there from the day you start driving your car (get driving license) and be there for 2 years. there are also rules that are only for beginner like the one that as a beginner you need to drive 10kmh slower than shown on the speed sign.
but still, many beginners ignore that because it would mean driving 30kmh through some places and it would just be too slow and it's understandable to me.

It's a bit similar here. I'm not sure of the exact rules but we have L plates for learners then red P plates for a few months then green P plates for a few years. As you say, sometimes young people find the rules very restrictive.
