Crime is Out of Hand!

It was reported by our local Crime Stoppers that a man walked into a Total Wine store, opened a case of beer and literally jammed 23 cans of it into his pants and tried to walk out.
He was stopped by security and the cops were called, but when the investigators arrived they let the guy walk off SCOTT FREE!
Can you believe it? This is absolutely ridiculous.
According to authorities, regardless of whether or not the crime was apparent, they simply could NOT make a case out of 23 beers.

People shoplift around here, and no one does much about it. They are told they[ll be fired if they tried, so they don't.

Ahh, thanks for the tip! As long as I'm stealing 23 cans, they have no case against me! I love it!

@porwest That's why crime doesn't pay...criminals don't ever think these things through. In the future, I'll have to put a lot more thought into my criminal plans!

@moffittjc I remember someone once saying, "Crime pays, it's the retirement plan that sucks." I don't know about you, but I want to enjoy my retirement. lol

@BACONSTRIPSXXX I do think we should have stiffer penalties for some of this. I mean, time that fits the crime is one thing. But how about time that makes you think twice before you decide to do it?

Pretty soon they will be locking the doors there to prevent that from happening. They already do it in other cities.
When there is no punishment for small time theft it becomes worth the risk.
Why stop at 23, one more would have made it a more interesting "case" to solve.
