Hotel prices are through the roof

Trump is having a rally in DC on Sunday at the Capital One Arena. And Monday is his inauguration on Monday.
Hubby and I wanted to go to both. If we do that, we need to book a hotel for two nights. So far what we’ve looked at for the 18th-20th has through-the-roof prices.
I don’t want to pay over $800/night. Or even in the mid-hundreds. Ideally I want to spend no more than $200/night. But that’s probably unrealistic.
We can potentially stay somewhere outside DC or close to it in Virginia and then travel to DC for both events. But I wanted to avoid that. Not sure what to do.

I found something at $299/night. With taxes comes out to $693 for two nights. That’s still too much.
And not even sure if they offer breakfast. Then from there would have to take a train to the venues.

@NJChicaa it’s not supposed to snow much.

@lovebuglena I wouldn't bother going and it has nothing to do with the fact that I can't stand Trump. It is going to be below freezing and might even snow. No thank you.

It is. I don’t even want to pay $800 for two nights.

@lovebuglena I hate it when hotels etc raise their prices extortionately when there’s some big gig in town and they all hold their hands up and feign innocence saying they have no choice and blame it on market forces.

That really upsets me. I know it’s business but still. The nerve to charge such exorbitant prices…

I found $299/night. That ain’t cheap at all. It’s not close to where we gotta be either. We’d need to take the metro to the venues.

@porwest hubby wants to find something in VA we can stay at. And then we’d commute to DC by train. Says it should be cheaper.

@lovebuglena I'd probably just stay home at that price, even if it is an event I'd really like to go to.

@celticeagle will have to settle for staying somewhere much further away. Hubby still wants to go even though the inauguration will be moved indoors.

I really want to go there but spending almost $700 for two nights is ridiculous.

We just paid $200 a night but that was the regular price. I guess these places raise their prices if there is a half-decent excuse.
