Something a little different

Our "social climate committee" has evidently seen some online things where teachers and staff go "undercover" for a type of spirit week. The adults have different dress up themes, and they all (those who choose to) dress to the themes and wait to see if students notice. They do not tell anyone why. Today we are dressing all in black to mourn the passing of the weekend. I can do this. Tomorrow will be dressing in holiday attire. Any holiday--Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's. I would do St. Urho, but no one would know that. It is an American made up day to celebrate a non existant Finnish Saint, celebrated March 16. It involves wearing Royal Purple and Nile Green. Wednesday I am taking a personal day, but it is royalty day--wear a crown or tiara. It also happens to be Kansas Day where we explore the culture of Kansas, every year. We have guest speakers and musicians and art and animals. I am going with Bob on an appointment instead. I need to finish getting ready for work right now. I have on black everything, that was pretty easy. I will be back sometime later today.

I'm glad you explained St Urho! The dress-up days should provide a bit of interest.

It was just little things, like summer clothes on Thursday. Friday was the most challenging as we were to drink out of anything but a cup or water bottle. I had a chocolate syrup bottle to drink from. Some things you needed to hide a water bottle inside, like someone brought a silver plate coffee server.

@celticeagle The nurse used one of those plastic canisters from sanitizing wipes. She hid a regular water bottle with a straw inside.

@RebeccasFarm I had that day off for Bob's appointment, this year. There is always a station with some kind of wildlife, and a poet or musician. PE teacher hosts prairie games.

I will miss out on the tiara day. I know that Thursday we are supposed to wear summer gear, shorts, sunglasses, flip flops, etc. I have to look up what Friday is supposed to be.

@FourWalls I was out sick that day. I would have just worn shorts over some loudly colored leggings.

Have a good day at work. I'm sure a few of the students will notice but am curious if they'll say anything.

Maybe some of the older kids will say something. Kids in our program will not.

@DaddyEvil For our kiddos it is mostly just important that their "person" is there.

We often have sports themes in our spirit weeks. We would all need to wear Chiefs clothes. I do not have a favorite, but Bob has some Packers T shirts.

What are you celebrating by doing this? It would be really cheerful to have lots of people wearing yellow.

I do not think any of the kids in my particular program noticed the themes, but it still was fun to do things like break out holiday themed clothes. I missed the tiara day.
